Mariner's Compass Quilts

There are a lot of variations in this book. It gives you the basics of everything from pattern to fabric selection, and has good instructions on how to put things together. Unlike other versions I looked at, this one has patterns for several ways to do this. I chose to do an oval with a round center medallion, and enlarged it to twice the size in the book - that just fits the top of a full-size bed.

Here the author stretches to show you repeatedly how to break down what appears to be a difficult project into a very approachable project. This book is both a technique book as well as a project book. You CAN complete this project from all that is provided in this book.Take the time to study the examples and question why those choices were made. This book has volumes to teach you as well as aid your growth as an accomplished quilter. There is such joy in mastering points and excelling in this art of quilting and this book is a marvelous practical gift to yourself.

I am a quilter as well as an avid crafter. I really like this book, it contains a lot of information if you’re into intricate designs relevant to quilting.

informative and useful book

I did a 2 day class with Judy 13 years ago...had to get this book..it is an innovative and clever method of paper piecing and hes bought back fond memories. Instructions are clear and concise...easy to follow

This was my first purchase through Amazon and I am very pleased with the promptness of the service. The condition of the Mariner's Compass book by Judy Mathieson is excellent and I am very happy to actually own it. I have taken it from our quilters library but always had to return it before I could do much with it. Now that I own it I can take my time, study it, and finally decide on which project to do. Thank you to the family in California for their help in getting this into the mail so quickly.

Her instructions for paper pricing this difficult pattern are great. It is well worth the price. If you have ever attempted this kind if quilt and know his hard it is, you will love her patterns and directions that reduce the difficulty. Buy and enjoy quilters.

I have two other books of hers. She is so creative. Not simple quilts but the results are worth the effort. Do not recommend for beginners. Assumes skills not taught. Can use internet for tutorials for the missing info if needed
