There is no switch ...simple plug/unplug

Can I use it in Italy?

Italy's power is 220V, so you will need to use a 110 to 220V power adapter before you plug it in, and don't forget that there is no standard socket in Europe and they can vary from lean Italian to sturdy German and French to absolutely ridiculous UK plugs and sockets, so you will need an adapter too.

can you actually travel with it?

Sure you can travel with it. It's not much different than bringing a full size hair dryer. I only travel with it if my husband needs to wear a suit on his trip, otherwise my clothes can all use an iron.
