Incomparable: Explorations in the Character of God Paperback – September 1, 2008

I read a fair amount of theology, and I have read several systematic theologies. This is introductory, but extremely insightful, and really delightful to read. Multiple times, the author brought insights that I’ve never encountered, or thought of in that way. Really grateful for this book.

I selected this title to read as part of a study on the characteristics of God in a men's group I belong to. As a man growing in his faith, I suggested we explore the characteristics and attributes of God as a way to maybe have them pop out more when studying and reading the Bible. Our group leader had read this title and recommended it highly. After reading Tim Keller's book "Prayer" he thought it would be a good change of literary pace. I had the pleasure of hearing Andrew Wilson deliver a sermon at our church, and was impressed with the ease at which he was able to deliver a thoughtful, engaging and theologically sound sermon. So I was delighted to see how well and how accessible this book is. He brilliantly described the attributes in a beautiful and tangible way. I would recommend this to anyone, from the seeker to the long time followed of Jesus. This book was so insightful and helpful to understand some of the most complex ideas Nd questions I had.

Andrew takes some of the names that are not commonly used and make them come to life to the reader. I have been walking with Christ for a long time and yet this book touched my heart.

This is a wonderful book. Some of the thoughts the author describes are breathtaking in how majestic they are. If you want to understand the true nature of God this is a great starter book. Easy to read - full of great thoughts.

It is a great book and helped me in practical ways to understand God's character and grow closer to Him, even though God is incomparable to anything or anybody we have on earth.

As the song lyric states, "He's big enough to rule the mighty universe, yet small enough to live within my heart". Andrew Wilson does an excellent job of presenting many aspects of God in an "Incomparable" way.

Good book, worth reading

Another excellent book by Andrew Wilson: Easy to read and aimed at the heart as well as the head.For those looking for a a thorough academically theological tome, this is not it. Having said that, I absolutely recommend it for everyone as it provides a profound understanding of the character of God in a way that encourages you to know him, rather than to know about him. Be warned though, knowing God better can cause an earthquake in your comfortable life, bringing down the harmful and unnecessary. But it will also provide you with the means to rebuild it as the most wonderful palace, fit for the King!Buy it, read it, put it into practice and enjoy the results.

The genius of this book lies in its structure as much as its content. The short chapters are ideal for daily devotions because they take less than fifteen minutes to read. However the content is so good that I found myself thinking about the aspect of God's character I'd considered for a few minutes in the morning all day!Andrew Wilson's writing is Biblical, theological, pastoral and very fresh. The book even fifty chapters in didn't feel formulaic or predictable. Wilson kept finding heart-searching questions and some great illustrations to apply these amazing attributes of God to life.Highly recommended.

A superb book which I bought a few years back in paperback and have now updated to my kindle. Each chapter can be read as a bible study or as a prelude to praise and worship. Every aspect of God, as highlighted by Andrew, gives fresh pause for consideration and deep thought. How amazing is our God.

This book is excellent to place into the hands of busy men. The chapters are short, to the point, stirring and inspiring making this book excellent as an aid to personal devotions for the man on the go.
