works as advertised
I bought this on behalf of a client that had lost all their motherboard USB ports for some reason. Being a high end system, it didn't make sense to put in older USB ports like 3.0. I only tested it with mouse and keyboard, so can't speak to its rated speeds. But it got the job done nicely and relatively easily. The only caveat is that I was half expecting it to take up one of the short PCIe slots, but it requires bigger than those 1x ones. Yes, you can put this 4x card in a long 8-16x slot just fine. This client only had one spare PCIe slot to use, but of course, one is all you need. And this should save them from having to buy a much more expensive replacement motherboard. If I could have found such a newer protocol card with 4 type-A USB ports, I might have gone that route instead. As is, after plugging in mouse and keyboard, they would only have one type-A port to spare. But I guess they can plug a USB hub into that if they need more, or buy a type-C to type-A adapter.Windows 10 detected the card and set up drivers automatically - no disks or manual downloads needed. It may also be worth noting that their BIOS didn't listen to a mouse and keyboard plugged into this add-in card, meaning that if I needed to go into their BIOS settings to change anything, I had to use a PS/2 keyboard, and it was fortunate they had that port available.

A great expansion card for data
The card installs relatively easily depending on your system. In our case, for a Windows 10 system, it installed quite nicely (the moment the PC booted into Windows it was ready to go). It offers plenty of flexibility with the spread of ports (their other card that is all USB-A should likely be identical to this performance-wise, so this review would cover for both outside of the "type" of port connections). When it comes to speed, this card has you covered. You should be able to get the most out of your external SSDs. At least up to the limit of USB 3.2 in general. TB3 or 4 will be your only solution for going faster until USB4 hits the market. So this makes for an awesome 3.2 solution for systems that need more ports.Where the card fails is power. PCIe can only output so much, so usually if you want a lot of charging capability via cards like this, they need to have a connection coming from your power supply to provide this extra power with (ie, for QC or PD supported devices). This card does *not* offer this connection, so your charging capabilities will be quite basic. So these cards would be best for those looking for high data speeds, but not for those looking to charge their devices. It's also important to point out that the pipeline is shared for these ports. So this will affect your performance if you have multiple high-speed devices plugged in and all working at once (it's a hub). Just a heads up.**If you have found our review helpful, please vote it as helpful below so we know. This helps us to provide quality feedback in the future.

Linux Mint 21.2 in HP z600 detected it immediately.
Pulled another board out which was working in windows but not recognized by Linux. This one came right up.

Works on 2010 Mac Pro tower 5.1
On a Mac Pro 2010, 5.1 it is plug and play. Unlike the USB card it replaced, the cables fit without hitting the sides of the PCI slot. Works well so far.

Had some issues at first
At first is would not read anything. Says plug and play for Windows 10 but even with drivers installed it would constantly connect and disconnect. Then it started making my PC shutoff and not boot back to Windows until I removed it. Finally I tried reinstalling it and now it seems to work fine. Will update if anything changes.

Easy install. Works well
Needed to add 3.0 ports on my seasoned desktop. Worked well.

USB 3.0 ports that might work for you.
This card worked well in my older Dell XPS 420, but did not function in a newer Dell XPS8950. Of course the newer PC has USB 3.0, but could have used more ports.
