Don’t buy this typewriter!
The typewriter is terrible. Because it doesn’t hold the paper tight enough, the typed characters were not straight, they were up and down. It looked so unprofessional. I would never have bought this had I known.

Almost nothing about this machine works as it should.I use typewriters regularly, so the keystroke challenges mentioned by other reviewers are not an issue for me, but sadly, everything else about this model is a serious problem. It types unevenly (as in, individual characters stagger up and down slightly within a line as you type). It leaves ink smudges on the paper. The margin bell rings only perhaps one-third of the time, and is half-hearted when it does. The carriage return arm slips out of position constantly, and demands a precise return action on your part to keep it in place. And if you are lucky enough to return the carriage into its starting position without issue, the line spacing is hit and miss at best, no matter what your setting (single, 1.5, double, etc). The shell is cheap plastic, which makes the machine feel and sound and look more like a toy typewriter you'd buy for a child. In short, it offers not only a joyless experience, one could call it an anti-joyful experience, as though it is actively trying to destroy the life and pleasure that typewriting on a good machine can (and usually does) offer. Don't waste your time here. Go find your local typewriter shop (most cities I've been to have had at least one) and find yourself a good refurbished vintage machine that feels good and works well. It'll likely cost less, using it will be a fantastic experience, and it will outlive your children.

It's not as bad as people say it is.
For $150.00, it's really not bad at all. I read review saying how it's really bad, but honestly it's pretty good. Not amazing, but it's decent & I honestly really like it.It took 4 days for shipping. I got it today which is Thursday & I ordered it on Sunday. I was so excited to get it that the wait seemed like forever, but I'm happy with what I got. I opened it immediately after UPS delivered it to my door.It was well packaged. It's sort of heavy. I opened it up & I fell in love! I read the manual like directed by some of the reviews on here that I read & YES! IT IS IMPORTANT TO READ THE MANUAL FIRST IF YOU ARE A NEWBIE! After I followed the directions, I pop a piece of paper in & tried it out.So here are the things that I experienced while using the typewriter:1. The lower case q comes out looking like the letter a.2. You have to press really hard on the keys & it's pretty loud.3. Replacing the ribbon was a pain at first, but I just watched a YouTube video on how to replace the ribbon & I was good to go.4. The spacing skips from time to time, but not all the time.5. The Carriage Return & Line Space Lever is a bit lower than usual.None of these really bother me that much, so I'm really happy with my purchase. I love it!!
