Zinsser's advice "Writing is thinking on paper" sums up his approach to helping people write well. If you can think well and clearly, you can write well and clearly. Add to that some instruction on certain types of writing and some good examples, what he calls in three of his chapter titles Principles, Methods and Forms, and you have a fine guide, both to give instruction and to build confidence. Zinsser's style is not as scholarly as, for example, Pinker, but intensely practical, meant for those of us whose primary writing aim is communication.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. I am not a good writer but have been working at learning how to express myself more clearly for the past few years. I have taken courses, read books and practiced but this book helped more than anything else. It gave me confidence to do the best I can while embracing my personal style. I also feel more confident to edit and re-edit. I will highly recommend this book.
