Scans take up too much memory
I'm a PhD student and I bought the scanner primarily for a) scanning documents for my research (archival, etc.) and b) scanning books so I don't have to travel with them, physically (I am gone for months at a time and need access to my books, but can't take them with me). While the scanner is great for documents (that are flat and not many pages), for books there are a few issues. First, I will say that I am not expecting the scanner to work like a copier or flat scanner when it comes to scanning books. Second, I've been able to find a really good system for scanning books without having any issues with the scan itself. It all works fine for this. The problems I have are on the back-end once something is scanned. I'll also say that I am impressed with the battery life so far. I am estimating I can scan about two books with two AAs on low res.I'll say that the scanner is still new to me, so please let me know if I am erring in how I am using it, and if there is a way to address my issues.First, the scanner's low-res setting is way too high. While a copier or flat scanner may produce individual pages at a low file size and decent scan, the lowest setting here varies between 300-500+ KB per page. This results in a book's file size being upwards between 150-200 MBs (again, on low-res). To put it in perspective, most scans I have made with a copier has the book somewhere between 6-10 MBs at most.Partially, this is because you have to scan in color - there is no black and white setting on the wand itself.I would add that the scan itself is great quality, but again, do you need this all the time? This has resulted in me needing to do a lot of after-scan wrangling to try to reduce the file size using Adobe Acrobat, or online systems, but still have not been able to reduce the scan size under 100 MBs. If I want to transfer these files to an iPad for easier reading and manipulation, this file size won't do.I'd also say that I'm not terribly happy with the software it comes with, because it comes with a small cd-rom, and I can't put it into my Mac without fear of it getting stuck. I think it would be fine on a pc cd-drive. Perhaps this software would solve my problems? If so, there is no way for me to access it.In all, the scanner will work to give me scans I can read on my computer, and does a good job for some of what I need it for, but because of the file size, it makes everything a bit too clunky to use after the fact.

This can be a four or a five stare. Works good remember you are the one keeping things straight. Work or play with it some before you need it. We us in genealogy hobby. Find it very useful.Like I wrote play with it on text of different types and photos. Think you will like it. Flat B scanner is best only having one in your bag in a small library or courthouse or other place can be interesting.

Difficult to use.
Difficult to use, and takes several tries. It might just take practice. I tried to use it to scan pictures in a large photo album, and it stopped scanning frequently in the middle of the page. I don't think that it's a bad brand. I think that just may be the difficulty with hand wand scanners.

I like it though it is difficult sometimes to keep it even side to side during a scan so that the image is not slightly skewed. I imagine that is an issue with all these wand scanners.

Three Stars
Has to be calibrated every time you use it. And the batteries don't last very long.
