Life Saver Pool FenceDIY by Fencing Section Kit, 4 x 12-Feet, Brown

About Me: I’m a mechanically inclined engineer with a solid background in building houses from the ground up.Bottom Line: This is a very well engineered system that can handle even complex fence topologies. With the right attention to detail, I think this system would be well-suited for just about any install. There are minor foibles but they are overcomeable. One person can do this install all by themself but with a drilling buddy you’ll go way faster.Foibles:1) The 4’ tall auto-closing gate comes with two vertical pieces that are what’s tied into the concrete deck with the gate itself that connects between them. The vertical pieces have two parallel posts that go into the concrete deck. It is not mentioned in the instructions, but it is CRITICAL that you get these two holes to be as parallel as possible. Pay very close attention as you are drilling these.2) The 4’ tall auto-closing gate comes disassembled, with the two vertical pieces, the gate itself, the two spring-loaded hinges, and the magnetic locking mechanism. It is on you to assemble this. Two issues: 1) It is a huge PITA to unload these hinges as you drill/secure them onto the vertical pieces and the gate. Having a second pair of hands for this part is a huge help. 2) The holes in the hinges DO NOT line up well with the pre-drilled holes on the gate, due to the thickness of the gate webbing itself. Expect to have to tweak the holes yourself once you see how each hinge lines up.3) I would HIGHLY encourage you to 1) Create a plan for how you’re going to do your drills 2) Reach out to the manufacturer with your plan and talk through your plan 3) Even if you’re doing something that’s a gentle curve 4) especially if you have any 90 degree turns.4) The drilling guide tool is a pretty good tool but I did have some slippage on one of my final drills that made an even drill into a light lean drill because I hadn’t checked the tightness of the tool prior to that drill. Check the tightness of the tool after every couple of drills!General:1) The manufacturer is SUPER helpful & responsive - use them!. I called them several times to talk through my complex fence topology (which included two gates, 5 90 degree turns, and tie-ins to existing split-rail fencing). They also had answers to what I considered to be random questions (how deep does a custom-poured concrete pier need to be? 8-10” deep).2) I did my drills one drill at a time and then measured the next drill hole location from the exact resultant center of my previous drill. I think the instructions are unclear on whether to do this or to just plot out all of your drills initially. Seemed to me that over long spans, small errors in location would stack up. I’d highly recommend doing that, I didn’t have to go back and rework any drills due to this source of error.3) One major advantage of this system, that I learned when I decided to use more of this fencing instead of traditional split-rail fencing at a certain point in my topology, is that you can re-drill a hole that you’ve done to the wrong direction of lean. Just fill your hole with cement, let it cure, and re-drill in that same spot. Worked like a charm.4) I can confirm that having a rotary hammer drill is a necessity for this installation.

I have a above pool, I install into my wood deck

Excellent so far. I read the other reviews and agree that the drill guide is a must. Also go to Harbor Freight and pickup a Rotary Hammer Drill if you don't already own one. Made the concrete drilling a breeze. I'm not sure what all the comments were about using zip ties, the provided hook and latch works great. I installed 6 sections, the 6th section I had to cut, it was kind of a pain, but take your time, you should only have to do it once =)Looks pretty good, considering I now have a fence around the pool. I went with brown since my landscape and pool rock work is primarily browns, I think this is better than the black for me. It was a little more cash, but worth it.I also installed a gate. It's early, but I probably would have been ok without it. It's real easy to lift a pole to open up a walkway. I guess if you'll be using the pool often for a quick swim, then the gate is more convenient. For me, I tend to have pool parties, which I will remove a large section or the entire fence each time anyway. But I've only had it up a few weeks, and summer is coming, so my opinion may change. As far as safety, a gate is definitely better. No risk of leaving a section open as long as you go in and out thru the gate.

We unwrapped it from the rest of the plastic thinking the box had the rest of the items coming with it. Well turns out they double charged us and sent one box of fence and one plastic wrapped bundle of these. Four wobbly rubber sticks? Now to return they want original wrapping which of course went in the garbage while we waited on the box of fence to come. Do your due diligence and make sure the item you got is the one you ordered. Turns out on top of it all this is not long enough for the project so we have to order another set, definitely inspecting it completely first. Also not as sturdy as advertised I'm inserting tie downs in the ground to put some pressure on it to hold it sturdy and not saggy at the top. We are using this to meet the DCYF standard of safety. Not impressed. One picture the rubbery sticks, one of the actual fence.
