Excellent
I wasn't expecting much, so I was not disappointed to find that it's rather cheaply constructed but hey, it's a $12 fishing rod!!! It's pretty simple, everything works, just extend each section, set the guides straight and run your line. I paired it with a small Pflueger Trion spincast reel. The handle holds the reel securely and for what it is, the whole set actually casts quite well. I tried it out yesterday hoping to give it a good test but unfortunately all I caught was a 3 inch stripped bass. And yes, I released the little guy. I was only using a small split shot, #6 hook, a small stick float and a night crawler and I was able to cast about 20-25 feet. As one reviewer responded it is just under 16-1/2 inches compacted. The Misses and I have an upcoming vacation and there is a golf course lake right off of the condo's back patio. I mean come'on!, any person that fishes can't be on vacation for a week with a lake staring them in the face and not have a rod & reel.... This will easily fit in a suit case and I don't have to worry about damaging any of my expensive rods during airport travel. I'm not asking for much. As long as it holds up for 5 days of relaxing with my morning coffee, an evening cocktail, (maybe a couple tokes - thank you Cali) and getting in a few casts without it breaking, I'll be happy :)Update- changing my rating to 5 star. On vacation and I’ve used this rod for the last 3 days and it has performed remarkably well. Beyond my expectations. I lost count of how many largemouth bass that I have caught so far. I’m guessing somewhere 30-40. Most of them ranging between 8-10”’s. I’ve have however caught a few lunkers that were all about 18” and this rod handled it without a problem. I’m actually very impressed.I know now that it will handle a 2 lb fish easily if you play’em right. So yeah, for pond and small lake fishing this is a great choice. If Trump worked as well (or at all) as this rod then America would “still” be great.Last Update - used this rod 6 days in row on vacation. Caught well over 70 largemouth bass, several lunkers too and I didn't have any problems with this product. It's a winner.

Not a basic kids rod but good for finesse fishing
First if you look at the reviews and ratings you will see to common themes. They break or they are fantastic. From the Manufacturer; specs: The rod is rated at 4-10lb line. So, its light. 1/8-1/2 lure weight to it can take light lures. Medium power, meaning the rod will bend a good 1/3 its length fighting a fish. But something is not written on it. Its action is moderate. It means if you get the rod caught in a tree, it will break. Any movement other without the eyelets up will stress the rod. Used properly it will toss very light lures down past 1/8oz, like a finesse/ trout rod. If you look at some of the reviews, a customer uses it for fly fishing, another with a baitcast reel. They understand the slower action this rod and its benefits. So, if you want to use the rod to try bait finesse with ultralight lures with excellent accuracy, this is a good travel choice. But to teach a young child the rod and risk hitting a tree, I would recommend a Zebco Z-cast rod

Nice inexpensive pack rod for general fresh water fishing.
So far so good and used with a Zebco 33 Platinum. Great for those grab an go moments. Have caught several nice size fish up to a bit over 2 lbs, so this would be a great fresh water rod for trout, pan fish and I would think for fish up to about 4 pounds as well. Need to use it more. Very compact size and fits well in most any pack or for travel when space is limited. The bass caught yesterday 4-7-15 was 5 lbs, 9 oz.Let the fish speak for the rod. Now it's not an Ugly STick so care must be taken when landing large fish. Keep the rod straight and don't try to bend it into a U shape!

NOT necessarily a "Spincast" rod!
It's a nice and compact rod that appears to be quite capable. However, the one sold by Amazon as a "Spincast" rod, is actually more of a "Baitcast" rod. You can still use it as a spincaster, but the eyelets are small and it would be much better suited to a "low profile baitcast reel". A low profile baitcast reel would also keep it much more compact which is ideal, given that seems to be its main purpose. Other than that, it appears to be very sturdy and well built and so long as you're careful with it, it should last a long time and bring many unhappy, but tasty, fish to the dinner table!

Good portable pond fishing rod
I was kind of skeptical about how strong this rod would be built since it is telescopic. It is much better than a Shakespear telescopic rod I bought several years ago. I don't know if I would use it to try to catch anything over 8lbs or not, but works great for farm pond fishing. I keep in it the pickup just in case I decide to stop and go fishing on a whim. It seems to be just as durable as a regular rod.The only con would be that the handle portion below the reel is kind of short, but again this is made to be more portable. Great buy!

Great item for the price!
I purchased this rod for the convenience of packing it in my luggage for air travel. The rod held up well during transport and also during use.

great small rod
don't expect to catch jaws on this thing. I have the matching spinning rod and it's better for what it is. This one seems as though its a good rod there is not much leverage I am not a weak person but catching a fish or a snag it seems like the pull is multiplied for what you are trying to reel in. like a 1lb fish feels like 5 lbs for how the setup is I am not sure what is wrong with the setup but the spinning rod is easier to use. not knocking it many point as it works and it has not broke yet so that is good

Decently made and compact
Got this to take on biking trips on the C and O canal trail. Looks perfect for what I want. The guides don’t appear to be replaceable so if they break it’ll be trash time. For the price I figure if it lasts 30 or 40 trips out I’ll be happy. For what it’s worth, it seems the action is more medium light than medium.

I keep buying these as long as they sell them!!!
I bought this Rod for a Dear Friend who hasn't got comfortable with a Spinning Reel Yet...since she grew up using only Spincast Reels and Rods. But I am working on her! I had bought the Spinning Rod earlier, and I was rather impressed with its durability and handling...they cast very well too! These are a Medium Action Rod and are they're best used with Monofilament Line of 10lbs or less, and they're perfect in the deep bush in smaller isolated Lakes, Ponds, or Streams! I use Tiny Spoons and Spinnerbaits like Panther Martins or Rooster Tails and Plugs...and of course, BAIT! They're very light and barely 14" Inches Long when they are collapsed, and they would be ideal for Back Packers and Preppers alike...also a very good "Backup Rod" for the trunk of your Car or if you happen upon a nearby stream you'd like to try a stab at! Like I said...they're quite durable, and I bought it to replace a Quantum Collapsible Rod that wasn't near as strong and literally disintegrated on me! So what to do with the Reel without a Rod? This was my Answer!

Much better than some eBay junk
For under $20 this is a pretty good telescopic rod for small fish. I've purchased others on eBay and they were junk. The sections and eyes are made of typical Eagle Claw parts, but the grip and reel mount are cheep plastic. Wish they had gone with something a little nicer in this area.

for the price this is excellent. look into carbon fibre rods also if you want, they are more upgraded and heavier duty.
