Not built to last, cheap and cheerful, but perfect for the job
These things never last, they're not meant to. We use ours once a week on average and will be lucky to get a year and a half out of it. They will quickly discolour and tarnish from the heat, and they will slowly rust - we've never had one warp but can see how that will happen. Eventually the handle will fall off since the heat slowly chars away the wood. We never get them wet. I can imagine they would last half the time and probably rust much quicker. But they are perfect for the job. They diffuse the heat from a gas hob perfectly, creating a more gentle and more uniform heat. They are cheap and cheerful, yet effective.

it works
we use copper pans on a gas hob and these are excelent for getting an even spread of heat as well as allowing very low tempratures for the pans. Others complain that the wood handles burn - well yes they do if you havd it close to teh flame or the gas on high - It may be down to what people expect to use thes for . Our use is to allow low heat to be spread evenly to get a gentle simmer which is a chalenge using copper pans even on a low gas setting and so the wood handles have darkened but are fine and nowher near burning - great price , we have used for many months and found them work well

The heat spreader is fine, but the wooden handle is too close to the spreader so it won't lay flat.
The heat spreader is fine, but the wooden handle is too close to the spreader so it won't lay flat on top of the range and the paella pan won't sit flat on top either - needs a longer extension between the spreader and the wooden handle.May end up breaking the handle off.

DANGER!!! This product set on fire first time used
Within a few minutes of turning on the gas flame we smelled burning wood. The recipe for our tagine cooking required an even higher heat which when applied made the smell even worse to the point where the wooden handle began burning along it's length. We eventually removed the handle and doused it in water to prevent the kitchen catching on fire. Without the handle the product performed satisfactorily. Tagine cooking often requires a long slow cook and there may be a temptation to leave the product unattended whilst you go about your business elsewhere in the house or (heaven forbid) leave the house altogether. DO NOT DO THIS. Either return the product or remove the handle before use.
