Q: Why is egg tray the same length as the 14-egg tray, 14.25 inches? If not what are the dimensions of this egg tray?

The 12 egg tray has an overall length of 12.25 inches, which includes the .25 inch lift off lip of the cover. I use this bin because it fits depth wise in refrigerators that are integrated in to the cabinets and have shallow but tall interiors. A 14 egg bin wont' fit!

Q: would i be able to put a custom decal on the top of the container or is the top rigid?

you might but its hard plastic, it also has to be hand washed so depending on the decal strength it might wash off.

Q: can you stack 2 in door

I do not stack them - especially if you get some larger eggs then the cover fits loosely. They work well but you have to be careful.
