Pay the extra and get a 40V.
This trimmer came boxed and ready to go. The battery had a good charge already. I laid it on the charger and it was ready to go in 1 hour. My first outing I used it for 30 minutes. Solid power the whole time. Went through 1-inch limbs with no problems. I was waiting for it to seize, and it never did. This thing is a workhorse. Treat it well and it will treat you well.

An outstanding product in every way
Wow! Never have I expected so little and got so much. By way of background, I already had a Little Wonder corded trimmer, an Earthwise 2 in 1 extendable corded trimmer, and an Earthwise small hand battery trimmer/edger. All are wonderful for their intended purposes so it seemed a bit extravagant to buy yet another hedge trimmer. Yet here I am, going for this battery powered trimmer, just to avoid the hassle of all the extension cords. I didn't expect much power but I was totally surprised by its performance. I read the data and reviews for the B&D 20 and 40 volts, then stumbled upon this one that cost a bit more but seemed to impress others with the battery strength and Power Boost feature. I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. I just finished my 20 foot maple hedge with plenty of battery life left over. It is strong enough that I will probably use it on my 50 foot evergreen hedge, which I did not anticipate doing. The battery charged so fast I thought I was misreading the light signals. You can't go wrong with this trimmer.UPDATE: It just got better. I searched for a blade cover with no luck, so I called Black and Decker. The agent told me that part was not listed for this model. She then took the time to search their inventory and found a 24" blade cover that works perfectly, and for a very reasonable price. Thanks B&D.

Nicely built-solid-works well.
I was getting tired of hauling out the 75 feet of extension cord every time I used my grass trimmer or my old hedge trimmer, and I didn't want a gasoline powered unit.I have a lot of cordless tools, but Black & Decker does not come to mind when I'm thinking about quality; it does when I'mthinking about price point budget tools.I was wrong. I got this and their line grass trimmer.I was impressed with both. Great power. The batteries last a long time (for my 1/3rd acre). Both trimmers appear well built, solid and feel good in my hands. It's better it get the higher amp hour batteries, but I also have one of the lower amp ones, and it still works great.I guess I would stick to the 2.0 amp (higher) for this trimmer because of what it has to trim.

Taking on thorny flowering quinces
So far, so good. I live on 5 acres and couldn't be attached to a cord. I bought it to deal with a couple of flowering quinces, which spread aggressively and have thorns. It has also been useful on my other shrubs.

Sometimes you get what you pay for - this is one of those times
UPDATE 7/26/2020:Well, my hedger has started showing clear signs it's nearing the great cleared backyard in the sky. Four great seasons of plenty of mileage on the motor. I'm going to buy another and I'll update with comparisons; quite a few negative reviews here have me a little worried they don't make em like they used to.ORIGINAL REVIEW MAY 2016:I've been on the hunt for a while for a hedger that had the cutting power to stand up to high density bushes and branches, not just for shaping and maintaining but also cutting down the exceptionally thick stuff as necessary. Having it be cordless was a high priority, since I usually spent 20% of my time keeping the cord away from the cutters or avoiding tangles in where I worked. After looking through what was available and the usual suspects of Amazon sales, I started to wonder if a truly effective & cost-effective cordless hedge trimmer didn't exist. This is the answer to all of that. The POWERCUT mode is astoundingly tough. The battery life is seemingly unending no matter what I throw at this. The battery recharges faster than I thought possible.I had a corded Black & Decker hedge trimmer, and other Black & Decker appliances, but compared to those this is in a whole different class. My other products are great, bordering on excellent, and so the price of this had me leery - could it be worth it? Should I look into the high-end ones from brands like DeWalt, Makita, or WORX? I took a chance based on the few reviews I could find for this model, and it paid off.My routine has become1.) Cut through everything that stands in my way.2.) In the event of a jam-up, check to make sure I'm not stuck on a fence or something non-organic.3.) Activate POWERCUT and make quick work of whatever is there.4.) Release POWERCUT and resume (1).

Recharging Issues, Twice!
Gosh, I'm so disappointed -- or is there something I just don't understand? I've always used Black & Decker yard tools since they're usually very reliable and function well. I've bought two of these trimmers. They're delivered quickly, they charge up great and trim like a beaver on steroids. But then the battery gives out after a good first go and I can't get the batteries to recharge!I plug in the charging station and get a green light for about a half second then it goes out. I put the battery on the charging station and then it shows a red blinking light. The red blinking light never stops. The battery never recharges. Help? I've tried this with two different batteries and the two charging stations that came with the two trimmers I've ordered.Am I the only one with this issue? Is there something I need to understand about this particular unit. Do I have to order a third?Update: Called Amazon since it had been less than 30 days since the order of the second trimmer. They sent a third so I could test to see what the issues were. First trimmer - bad charger & bad battery. Second trimmer - bad battery. They told me to send back the bad battery & charger along with the third trimmer and keep the good charger & battery from the third trimmer. At least I've got something to trim with before it gets toooooo hot here in Florida.Update: Received the new trimmer -- had a go at some shrubs after charging the battery. Recharged the battery and now it's failing AGAIN - on the third trimmer. What am I doing wrong?

Motor died after 3 uses
All was well until it died on the third use. Motor starting smoking after perhaps 20 mins of running on that third cut. Complete garbage! I probably cut enough hedge to offset the cost of hiring someone to cut it, so if you're looking to do some free labour buy this trimmer!
