Fairy Art - Grayscale Coloring Edition (Grayscale Coloring Books by Selina)

Beautiful artwork to color!
I have all her coloring books - they are the best! I love that there are two of each picture, It's great to be able to change color schemes, or even start over if you mess up! The fairies are beautiful, every one of them! The pictures aren't too intricate, but far from simple. I have both the grayscale version and the standard one, I like coloring in the standard one and seeing how she does the shading on the grayscale ones. I've now started using the pencils just on the regular books, and then markers seem to work better on the grayscale ones. I like the alcohol markers the best, they work awesome on her grayscale books! She is an amazing artist, when is she coming out with more coloring books! I'm hooked!

Beautiful artwork but printing is too dark – printed on one side of the page

The artwork is everything I could hope for and more. It is simply beautiful and I hope to see more books in grayscale by Ms. Fenech. However, the printing in the book is simply too dark for me to work with. I admit it could be because I am new to grayscale coloring (I only have three other books in this style) so it may be due to my inexperience.I did do a comparison of print against my other books and this one is much darker. The problem is that adding coloring can never make the print lighter (unless you are using a solid opaque medium and simply painting over the existing artwork to cover it up.) The images show much lighter in the digital images in the “Look Inside” feature than they are in print.I tried three different sets of coloring pencils (Prismacolor Premier Softcore, Caran D'Ache Pablo Colored Pencils and Faber-Castell Polychromos) just in case it made a difference. I used similar style designs and similar colors. While I preferred the Pablo pencils for coverage, I had the same problems. For flesh tones, I had to use creams and the lightest pink I could find in each set and the tones still came out really dark.I am hoping that my book is an aberration and that others get much lighter printing in their books. If not, I hope this is something that Ms. Fenech can get corrected immediately. If that happens, I hope that someone will let me know and I will re-purchase this book in a heartbeat. I am still coloring in this book and am liking it due to the artwork but I simply can't say I love it.The book contains 25 different but two copies of each for a total of 50 coloring designs. The book is glue-bound but has plenty of room to remove each design from the book. The designs do not merge into the binding area. I only use coloring pencils with my grayscale so I didn't check for other mediums. As the designs are printed on one side, you can always put a blotter page behind the page you are working on and it will keep ink from seeping through. My pencils worked well but differently. The Blue fairy is Pablo, the Purple fairy is Polychromos and the Pink fairy and Bee fairy are both Prismacolor Softcore.

This is my favorite coloring book!
I discovered Selena Fenech on Facebook when she popped up in my news feed to "like" because I liked similar artists. I liked her page and enjoyed looking at her artwork and posts for the last few months. I knew she had coloring books available here on Amazon; I planned on buying them soon, perhaps for my birthday. A few weeks ago she offered 10 free printables of her images from her latest coloring book; I apologize but I don't remember the actual name of it, but it's the one with fairies. I was so excited to get the 10 free printables, and I had so much fun coloring them! I shared some of the pictures I colored with my mother; who also enjoys coloring; and she enjoyed the images as well. She wanted to buy one the coloring books and she bought one for me too! She bought the Enchanted - Magical Forest one and I got the Fairy Art - Grayscale coloring book. I was ecstatic to see the images in this book!!! Stunning and beautiful! They all exceeded my expectations. I've never worked with grayscale pictures before so this is exciting. I have a good sized collection of coloring books that have a variety of images, this one is definitely my new favorite!

Beautiful Grayscale Art
There is grayscale, then there is grayscale by Selina Fenech. Some of the images are darker than others, but that doesn't bother me as it might some. I've been doing a lot of grayscale for some time & have found I love it. But I also find it more challenging. Selina's Fairy Art Grayscale Edition is a beautiful coloring book. It's gorgeous without any color, just as it is. I received my copy yesterday & immediately started a page. Color on her grayscale gives the images such depth & beauty. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys coloring in grayscale. I'm taking off a star for the images that are really dark because not everyone likes the darker grayscale. I find it to be a beautiful work of art.

Love this book!
This book is excellent. I would compare the "darkness" of the images to Nikki Burnette's beginner's edition grayscale coloring book. This allows for more shading when color is applied over the images. I'm sure that you could lighten the images by copying at home if you find the images too dark. There are also many helpful youtube videos for grayscale coloring. Selina Fenech is a very talented artist and I'm grateful to have stumbled upon this wonderful book. I will have hours of fun coloring!

Grey scale to dark.
I do like the books but I think it would be much better if instead of double pages instead do half grey scale and not greyscale. One each for the best of both worlds. I really like grey scale if it’s not to dark. I had to throw several pics away because the grey was too dark and ruined. Two of the same picture would be pointless. I use the grey to know where to shade in the other books. So when you do double pics it defeats the purpose. I decided I’m not going to buy anymore of her books.

Beautiful art
I love Selina’s work and I have all her books but greyscale isn’t my preferred style. I use this as a reference point but it hasn’t made me want to buy more. I can’t recommend Selina’s other books enough and if you DO like greyscale or haven’t tried it before, this is a wonderful book and a great place to start. It’s just not for me but with 2 copies of every image in the book, there’s plenty of room to develop and practice.
