TOO TOUGH TO CHEW
So disappointed. These candies are too tough to chew, and not tough like they are stale, I don’t think they were. Just tough in their make up. Expected more jelly like consistency like an orange slice, but in black licorice flavor. No flavor. Just hard to chew sugar cubes. Didn’t return because we were so excited when they came, we ripped open the bag and we all (7 of us) had one, or well..um, attempted to eat one. Everything went into the trash. Now, maybe the flavor and softness vary batch to batch. I am only reviewing my experience with the product I bought and attempted to consume.

Didn't like
They were stale, didn't like the taste of it. And I like black licorice. But not these wast of money.

Product is much too chewy!
They taste good, but are extremely chewy! I thought they may have been softer.

Real dutchies
Saw several reviews complaining about how these aren't gum drops, or how these are chewy, or how these don't taste strongly of licorice. All correct of course, because these are real dutchies, exactly like dutchies should be.If you don't know what a dutchie is, don't buy these - it will not be what you expect. If you know and love dutchies, these are proper dutch-produced dutchies.

Flavor
Not like the licorice we use to get as kids. Very artificial tasting.and very expensive.

One of the reasons I buy from Amazon, a big one really. Is that Amazon usually deliver to my door. However about a year ago they started delivering sometimes through USPS. Unfortunately, I never know when this method applies. This was sent to our community metal mailbox in 106 degree weather. Needless to say it was melted beyond recognition. I immediately tried to separate it, no luck. So I refrigerated it, took it out the next day and tried again. Again didn't work, so I recut it the best I could, very difficult. Rerolled it in granulated sugar, like the original, and rebagged. This seemed to work and the flavor is pretty good. But, I can't help but think it would be much better (without the slightly plastic taste) if it had not been melted to smithereens in the beginning.
