Qadesh 1300 BC: Clash of the Warrior Kings (Osprey Military Campaign Series)

Geat Book
Easily, the clearest, most readable, most logical exposition of Qadesh that I've read. There is brief epilogue called "Wargaming Qadesh" which is also quite interesting but is completely contradictory to the rest of the book. For example, the book describes the Hittite chariots as having a 3 man crew and argues that the numbers of chariots engaged is much smaller than claimed by the Egyptians, but the epilogue argues that the Hittite chariots had a 2 man crew and an associated runner while assuming that the number of chariots given by the Egyptians "makes perfect sense".

Like all Osprey books
This book provides a lively and clear description of this crucial battle. Like all Osprey books, it is high quality.

Excellent overview of this epic battle of antiquity.
I thoroughly enjoyed this installment of the Osprey Military Campaign Series. As usual, the information is concise, to the point, interesting, and a fascinating read. Also, the maps and other illustrations and photos, are fantastic. If you like ancient history, this is an excellent introduction to a particular epic battle of antiquity.

A very good read. The editor blinked too many times for my taste, forcing me to slow down and untangle some of the language. Also, the photos are not the best always, but the maps are very useful and the premises are excellent.

The clash of two superpowers and of two kings
A decent title in the Osprey series.Deals decently and with good focus on the subject. Here we have the first recorded battle in history, the clash of two superpowers of the time, the clash of two great king in northern Syria. After a good half of background description, scene setup, and political context, the author describes the battle with great help from the Egyptian records (from Ramses). The Hittites do not have much attention in this book and you may have the feeling that they are the enemies are the Egyptians the good guys. The 3d view are very good and really clarify the battle unfolding.Well explained by the author is that "we still dont know much" about this battle. For example, the number of chariots involved is still not know for certain as explained. the author brillantly make a point that the numbers of warriors were probably rather limited given the timescale for crossing narrow river crossings, etc.In the end, the author seems to think that this was actually a Hittite victory since Ramses's forces are brought to a halt and are actually in the following years stuck dealing with rebellions in the near east.I enjoyed this book. The colours plate were very good and detailed and maps very clear. Not many negative points overall.
