It can sew leather providing one uses the correct needle, presser foot, thread and stitch settings for the weight/thickness of the leather. Singer's website has an accessory brochure (PDF file) that can be downloaded and used as a reference for which needles, feet and settings to use for sewing various types and weights of fabric, leather, vinyl, etc. If you can't find Singer's website, google "singer accessories."

I am new to sewing machines...how do I know what type of needles needed for this sewing machine?

The needle for your machine does matter, leather needles for leather, shorter needle for thicker fabrics. Each needle has two numbers. What most folks do NOT know is the second number. It is the hole size . If you have 20/10 vision and fairly young this number will not matter. However, if you are ancient as we are it makes a HUGE difference. 118 is a perfect hole size for those of us with aging eyes. Remember that your needle will dull. If making masks: your sewing through folds, it will dull faster. We have found that keeping a sharp needle is well worth the price.

Will this machine blindstitch 3-4mm thick neoprene for a wetsuit?

The Singer model 4452 is a home machine. The Singer model 4452 presser foot lifts to approximately ½ inch space from the needle plate to the bottom of the presser foot, by lifting presser foot lifter. The presser foot will stay at this height until the lever is let down. By pushing the lever further up it will go to a height of approximately 5/8 inch; however, it will not stay at that height if lever is released. Neoprene fabrics can be anywhere from about 1mm-7mm. The nylon or polyester usually accounts for about 0.2mm so the rest is all about the amount of rubber you have. 1-2mm is usually fine for most home sewing machines to work with. 3mm (approximately 1/8 inch) will depend on the machine, and anything 4mm and above is recommended only for industrial sewing machines. The amount of presser foot lift may not be the issue, if the layers are too thick, the tension will disengage and will not form a proper stitch.

Durable, Use regularly with no issues, Easy to use

Came on time, use regularly, then store in bag that I ordered with it. The instructions are clear and the machine is sturdy and easy to use. I have made one queen size cotton quilt and am halfway though another. The only drawback is that the spindle to hold the spool of thread at the top is designed for a "regular" sized spool and lays horizontally. Consequently, you can't easily devise a means to hold a larger spool of thread. In the past, my machines have had a vertical spool holder to which I could add an extension to use longer/taller spools of thread. Still, it's a good machine and I am happy with it!

Upgrade from my old unit

Works like a champ for what I've run through it so far. I did LOTS of research before buying this model based on the construction of the machine and its capabilities for the price tag. I don't sew a lot and I don't always sew thick stuff but there's no reason to NOT have a machine that is well built for general purpose sewing.

I have been sewing for years. I bought the machine because I am learning to make quilts. I have made 2 so far off of UTube. It handles the thickness of material and battening with ease. I consider the sewing machine a great investment. 😁😁😁

Not a good choice

Bobbin thread tension is all wrong. Lots of extra loopy threads. Couldn’t adjust the tension to make it work correctly so I sent it back.
