Primary Language Lessons, Teacher's Guide

Primary Language Lessons
This is an amazing language set. My son hated English and writing but since we started this, only two weeks now, he's asking me to keep reading and has written his first poem at 7! And it's GOOD! We'll continue to use for as long we can and supplement with others for what it may lack. I say may lack b/c for most this is plenty but it depends on your style.

I enjoyed having this to accompany PLL
I don't always need this - but it definitely has come in handy on numerous occasions. I have been glad I purchased it for sure - it has helped get new ideas on a lesson or helped my learn information on topics that we didn't know as much about - for instance if it discusses items in nature that we don't seem to be as connected to as they may have been. I have really enjoyed teaching with Primary Language Lessons and I am glad I bought this teacher guide for when I needed it.

Love this!
I love this teacher guide. I had originally bought the student book without the teacher guide and was a little lost (you could do it without it but for the price it was worth it!).

Unnecessary, unimaginative supplement to a fine text
I ordered this teacher's guide along with Emma Serl's Primary Language Lessons because I'm a busy homeschooling mama and scripted lessons have saved my bacon in the past. I'm thrilled with the simplicity and charm (yes, it's charming!) of Serl's original book, and looking forward to using it (and the next volume, Intermediate Language Lessons) with my two boys. I am returning the teacher's guide because it's the opposite of simple and charming, and it's completely unnecessary. The short lessons in Serl's book all make it quite clear what the teacher/parent is to do and what the child is to do. It's brief and beautiful. I can't imagine why the publisher decided it needed further explanation. The teacher's guide consists of lots of completely needless "suggested answers" to the questions given in the text (I can't imagine any responsible adult needing them), further "enrichment" activities which just boil down to busy work and/or attempting to make the lesson more relevant, and charts and worksheets to copy (joy). And, in contrast to Serl's light touch, the guide is written in a heavy, authoritarian tone that makes me think of state education bureaucracies laying down the law to teachers. Maybe that doesn't affect the value of the guide, but it sure rubs me the wrong way.Really I think this guide is published as a money-maker to take advantage of parents new to homeschooling who are unsure of their skills. Believe me, if you can read and understand this review, you can teach your child Emma Serl's Language Lessons unaided! The only other two audiences who might get something out of it are those who, for whatever reason, actually want to give their child lots of extra busy work (thereby killing any enjoyment they might have found in the lessons as originally written), or those for whom English is not their first language. That last consideration is why I gave the guide 2 stars rather than 1.Skip this one! Save your money for some great living history books your whole family can enjoy instead.

I love the content of the book
I love the content of the book, however, it came with damaged. The back cover is really bent, the front of the book has scratches and the front covers edge is damaged, the damage extends across the edge of the pages of half of the book.

Good Book!
This book is okay, but it is kinda dry. Probably would not use it again. There are better sources out there!

Valuable help
This teacher's guide gives more detail for the lessons in PLL student book. Also, sometimes the language in the student's text is outdated and it is nice to have it explained in this TG.
