An Overlooked Gem in the Transformation Literature
A great contribution to the Jungian literature. I wish I'd found this one years ago. One of the issues I've struggled with over 20 years of journey work is "Where is this unraveling going to take me?" In the process of inner work, a person can get caught up in so many fantasies and mis-directions from the spiritual literature and religious prosthelitizing that nothing but confusion remains. And then, one can get really stuck and hung up in liminal consciousness. Then one gets a clearer sense of how dangerous and frightening these dynamics can be. Moore's work and this book especially helps make it clear what the ritualization of de-fragmentation is all about, why such events occur, and what is their point. This is not just a "spiritual search." We need to know what these events are FOR and how to work more confidently with them so that they are productive and not destructive? Moore's insights help bring clarity and help one come to a tipping point where one can discover that the Sun is closer than one thought in the darkness.

Disappointing
Was pretty disappointed in the book. I didn’t like the way the content was written (in the style of a fictitious Q&A presentation) and it just didn’t really grab me.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK ON KINDLE
The Kindle endition is unreadable. It was photocopied with an overhead camera with side lightning at a low angle from the left. As a result the right side of the bage is in shadow often too dark to read.

If you want to understand sacred space, initiation and transformation, this is the book.
This book is a superb outline of the process of initiation/transformation and represents a fabulous distillation of current wisdom on the topic.Robert Moore outlines the 3 stages of transformation - submission, containment and enactment, and is able to bring the concepts to life because he himself is clearly familiar with the process. The latter is key for a topic such as this as it is not a topic for academics who like to babble on about intellectual concepts but a real life experience that needs documenting in detail from real experiences so that others can make use of it.I am 40 years old and for the last year have been undergoing tremendous upwellings as memories of 10 years of extreme childhood trauma have begun to surface. This book has been an outstanding help in providing me with a clear framework for my experiences and guidance on each step. It matches my own experiences and gives me a clarity of understanding that is literally life saving, and that is why I consider it second to none.It is a truly excellent book but will probably only make sense to those who have had first hand experience with the mysteries within the unconscious.

Explains How We Get To Be Men And Women
In this book, Moore clarifies how we make the transition from child to adult, helping you see how this doesn't happen as efficiently in our society as it did when this transition was a "life or death" matter for the community. However, the lesson here is (more broadly) about personal transformational change. If you want to really change your life - making your actions in the world more aligned to your values - this describes the process, and the challenges therein.Moore's prior works (read "King Warrior Magician Lover") explains the basics of the human personality. To better understand how you got there (growing out of childhood), read this. His "Facing The Dragon" talks about how the unpleasant side of the human personality, and the often-untapped power inside each of us.Highly recommended!

Great!
This is a great book about initiation from a psychological perspective. If you seek an understanding and balance between jungian psychology and animistic/primal anthropological literature, this work is the best option. It helps to understand the commons phonomena of psyche transition that we all experience from time to time. So far, it's the best book I have read about intitiation, and I will use it as a reference work for my own books.Well written, informing and eyes opening - a must read for everyone!
