Tamarind is native to East Africa and Southern Asia. The tamarind tree grows wild throughout India, producing the pods from which the pulp like tamarind paste is extracted. It has a refreshingly sweet, sour and somewhat fruity flavor. Essential in South Indian and Gujrati cuisine, tamarind is used as a souring agent in lentil, sambars and rasam dishes. Shudh India Tamarind is sourced from India, with true authentic taste.

Tasty but tedious
This paste truly is a slab, as described, complete with seeds and other roughage. I have to add water and then smush the mixture through a sieve. It takes way more time and patience than I want to expend on an ingredient to Pad Thai. It is tasty, though.

Just gave it a try.
I didn't like anything about it. Not the Tamarind I was looking for, very bitter it's just not for me.
