Perky-Pet 1 Mason Jar Wild Bird Waterer 783, Blue

This was such a good investment of just a little bit of money. Better than buying a bird bath because they are constantly in need of cleaning, which is hard for me to do, since cancer has about taken away my ability to even walk. It is soo hot here in NC and we've had temps in the 90's for about six weeks now. I was tickled to see the many birds up here in our forest home making immediate use of this easy to use waterer. I was studying about the hummingbirds since we are blessed to have both the Rubythroats and Rufus hummingbirds here constantly. I discovered they need a clean water supply just as much as the nectar many of us are compassionate enough to put up till late fall arrives. This gets alot of use and is made very well, very simple concept; we used to raise chickens and is quite similar except this is meant to hang. It has a sturdy hanger too and looks so nice at our feeding station. No worries about constant cleaning due to feathers, seed and...whatnot in the water; they simply fly in, perch and drink away. Just make sure to be kind and change out the water daily and watch how many feathered friends will come to use it daily. The price was kind, and am enjoying all the birds who come to drink from it. I am sure we'll get many years use from this.

We needed a water source for our backyard birds. This item works nicely. However I did have to add a hook to hang it since there was not much space between the hanger and the jar. Now with the added hook, I do not have to tip the jar to get it on the shepherd's hook causing it to lose water. It is pretty and it looks like it will hold up nicely for years to come.

I really like the look of the jar, which is made of thicker glass thankfully. I occasionally struggle to thread the metal bottom onto the jar after I fill it, but otherwise, it is easy to use with minimal spilling when I hang it up. The only other issue I have encountered is that the hanger is quite close to the jar, so I have to use a chain to hang it up, but it has otherwise served me well and held up to use all season.

Water is, arguably, more important even than food. This keeps the water clean - I do a swish each morning if there is trash in the tray. I clean the tray with a soft paper towel when I change the water. Great product! I liked it so much that I got this one for my son. Mine sits on a porch railing, but you can hang it as well. The birds and squirrels visit this many, many times per day. Sometimes clean water is harder for them to find, than food.

I like the overall look and design of this bird waterer, but I wish it was better. My main complaint is with the metal dish at the bottom. When you get the item, it looks shiny, like it is stainless steel - it is not. It is painted metal, and very quickly the acids from rain, seeds, and bird poop will start wearing away the paint. The color will turn dull, and then the metal (especially around the threads where the bottle connects) will start to rust. I regularly have trouble unscrewing the base from the bottle when it comes time to clean it, so I try to tighten it as little as possible when putting the base back on. Also, the loop in the wire at the top of the bottle that is used for hanging it is very small - too small to fit over some of the shepherd's crooks that we have. I looped an old keychain ring through the loop and it is much easier to hang that way.

Have two of these. One seems fine but the other is not. The paint peeled off and rust develops on the base and bottle.
