Should have gotten the bandai version.
Ok let's try again. I got the revell TIE fighter recently afteer not modeling for a loong time. I was impressed by the detail, looks and ease of assembly. So I decided to get this upgraded tie fighter model. I had to choose between this and the bandai version. I got this one based on the revell tie fighter I had. I found it to be somewhat disappointing. The model is missing the belly turret of the movie version of the SF TIE fighter. One of the parts was slightly miscast, resulting in a terrible look to the model from the rear. The right engine is cleanly and sharply cast, the left one is somewhat miscast, giving it a melted look. See pictures. The base is too weak for the weight of the model, it needs a belly turret and new base. A good modeller could fix both, no one can fix the miscasting. All in all it is a nice model despite the missing turret, I just got one with a miscast part. My typical luck. I should have gotten the bandai version.if you get this be sure to check for miscast parts.Consider modelling a belly turret and a new base.Be very careful whenjremoving the solar panels from the sprues, they are prone to damage. All in all if I'd kinown, I'd have gotten the bandai version. Here's a video comparing it and this one.[...]

this appeared to be perfect for my bookshelf
Meh.Before I bought this, this appeared to be perfect for my bookshelf. After I receive it, I would rather buy Bandai's version or Revell's version without the stand. In total, this model isn't a bad model but it isn't a high quality one either. Though not all things made in China have bad quality, this one certainly have its flaws. Before buying this, be cautious this model is 9.1" just for the height of the fighter itself (not including height when its on a stand), this means from bottom of the wing panel to the top, it is 9.1". The description wasn't clear on that and I thought it would be the 9.1" from the base of the stand to the top of the wing panel. I was actually looking for something smaller and ended up shuffling my bookshelf to fit this giant plastic statue.Pro:Not a toyGreat detailsCons:It is enormousNot all parts fit togetherUse force and some cutting to make it workPaint job is not accurate (the red part)Cheap quality plastic and paint jobFlimsy standNot easy to built due to bad design decisionsDo need tools like scissors and glue because some parts wont fit and some wont hold togetherConclusion:For $20, I didn't expect too much out of it. But compare to it's competitors, do yourself a favor and buy something else unless this is exactly what you wanted. This model is overall meh.

Hard for kids to assemble
Good news, my 10 yo loves itBad news, very hard for a 10 year old to snap together. He did, eventually, but it was hard.

Poorly made, parts do not align properly, looks decent if you force it together.
So I was looking for a simple display model. This one looked decent and easy to put together. It is, except the parts were misaligned. They don't stick together well, and have to forced. I have put together much more complex Bandai models before, and made sure to follow the instructions properly. After removing some pieces, it worked well enough and looks decent. As long as you don't want to move it or look too closely at it.

Great detail, check for clear parts!
Excellent detail fit and finish. Pretty good use of assembly, too. Unfortunately, two clear parts were missing from the package. They would have been separate from the colored pieces and I can see how they could easily slip out of the box. Be sure to check when unpacking. Submitted an online parts request through Revell, however still waiting to see if and when they arrive.
