O1718 - 25 Daily Exercises for Saxophone
B**R
Heading back to the Saxophone after 40 years of not playing. Perfect daily exercise book.
I'm trying to get back to a little of the playing shape that I once had -- about 40 years ago. This is a wonderful exercise book that virtually walks you through a rigorous training of fingers, breathing, timing and reading. I use several lesson books and this one is going to be my go to book as I get going. There is something for everyone in this book and you can take it slowly through the paces. Certainly this is not for the beginner and even someone that is intermediate can find their way through it. But I think it probably would be too tedious for a high schooler unless they really enjoy the fundamentals of playing. If this was a book that I had learned on, I might not have enjoyed it then like I am now.

Nothing woth doing is easy
This is the technique book that haunted me as a young player. After setting my horn down for almost 30, years I knew this is what I needed. The exercises become incrementally more challenging as you work your way through the book. As a kid, it frustrated me. But now I see how it works and have enough patience to let it work. This edition also has notation that suggests alternate fingerings. I don't remember this from the edition I had in the past and it certainly helps both with keeping the phrasing fluid and (finally) learning all the alternate fingerings and when to use them. I may not make it all the way through (again) but it is great practice.

Great Intermediate Exercises
The re-emergence of this vintage exercise collection is a welcome addition to a saxophonist's and saxophone instructor's repertoire. Especially valuable are the meticulous designations of alternate fingerings, including lesser-known fingerings for C# that will forever enhance a performer's playing.

Solid Study Guide
This book will not teach you how to play the saxophone, but it will help you become a better player. It is a collection of etudes and studies designed to exercise your fingers and your brain. Even if you are a rank beginner and can barely play the C scale, you can use this book. You don't have to slur everything and you don't have to play these fast. Just go to Exercise One and start - you will get better if you work at it.Even though there are no real instructions in the book, the exercises do suggest alternate fingerings and these are shown in the book. Working through these gives you a better idea how Charlie Parker and others actually played some of their music at blinding speed.

Classic Exercise Book
This exercise book needs little introduction and is a classic for 100 years for good reason. This particular issue is a nice quality printing on good full-size paper in a soft-cover presentation that is easy to open on your music stand.

Great Book for the Intermediate Sax Player
After 30 years I am getting back into playing tenor sax. These exercises are not easy they are down right exhausting, but after a few weeks my sight reading and dexterity has improved. If you are determined the exercises are impressive once you develop speed and consistency. Not to mention I am learning to put emphasis on certain notes and giving a swing bebop to the scales which is seems to impress others. I have added this to my overall practice. I practice one page for a week for a 1/2 hour a day. I am enjoying the challenge.

WONDERFUL ETUDE BOOK!
This is a wonderful saxophone etude book. It is a standard of the middle school and high school repertoire. Pick it up- you won't be disappointed! The etudes contained in this book are just difficult enough to be challenging for upper middle school and high school students but not so difficult as to seem impossible. This challenging book of studies is a wonderful tool for young players to build their playing skills without being overly frustrated. Please note that the student must have attained some level of technical ability before undertaking studies contained in this book.

This is a great book!
I have used this book in the past and just ordered it again. I have read some of the other reviews on this book and I just want to say that it takes a book like this to make you improve on the sax overall. If you notice, each exercise is based on a certain rhythmic theme. These exercises should be learned and maintained. The more you play through the book after you have thoroughly learned the exercises, you will noticed that your sight reading will have improved drastically. And by the way, Scales and rhythm are the basis of all music. If you don't learn the basics you have nothing.
