Tide Free & Gentle HE Turbo Powder Laundry Detergent, 68 Loads, 95 Oz

I didn't buy this product because it's "free and gentle" and know that's probably the main reason most people look for products of this nature. I tried it because I have a standard top loading washing machine, not a newer front loading high efficiency (HE) model, and Consumer Reports rated this detergent highest of those tested for standard top loading washing machines in their August 2014 report. All of the results I am sharing in this review are from Consumer Report's 2014 ratings and these change every year.If you have a HE machine and want to use Tide Free & Gentle you would be better off with the Tide Gentle HE Laundry Detergent 77 Count or Tide Free And Gentle High Efficiency Liquid Laundry Detergent, 50 Fl Oz (Pack of 2) versions as they are specifically formulated for HE washers. HE laundry detergent can be used in standard washers, but standard detergent should not be used in the HE washers. This listing of Tide detergent is formulated for standard top loading washers:* it is a Powder* its cleanability in warm water is good* its cleanability in cool water is very good* it has fluorescent brightening agents (FBA)* it is unscented* it has clear usage directionsIt is very good at removing blood, but not rated as good for removing grass and dust/sebum (ring around the collar). The other downside is that it was the most expensive detergent of all that they tested with a cost of .28/oz. At the time of my review this listing has a price of .40/oz., but if you look you'll find other listings that also ship with Amazon Prime and sell at .31/oz.In scoring a 61 out of 100 points possible in Consumer Reports, it is the only tested standard top loading machine detergent that broke into their "very good" category. The next highest-rated detergents tested for standard top loading machines were Gain with Freshlock Icy Fresh Fizz Liquid Detergent 52 Loads 100 Fl Oz (.19/oz) and Era 2x Ultra Active Stainfighter Formula Regular Liquid Detergent 16 Loads 25 Fl Oz (Pack of 3) (.09/oz). Both were rated "good" with the Gain version scoring 49 out of 100 points and the Era versions scoring 47 out of 100 points.Consumer Reports rated Tide Plus Ultra Stain Release Original Scent High Efficiency Liquid Laundry Detergent, 46 Fl Oz (Pack of 2) (.25/oz) and Tide Plus Bleach Original Scent Powder Laundry Detergent 22 Loads 39 Ounce (.23/oz) their two highest scoring detergents for use in HE front loading machines. Both scored 81 out of 100 points possible. But again, since my washer is a standard top loader I went with this Tide Ultra Free and Gentle Powder since it the highest-rated as tested for my type of washer.If you have an HE front loading washing machine and you're looking for a product that's touted as free of dyes and perfumes, you might want to look at Wisk Ultra Free and Pure Detergent, 50 Ounce. Wisk was the #1-rated detergent in Consumer Report's 2013 report. It actually earned the highest score of all detergents in CR's tough ring-around-the-collar test, making good on its promise to tackle trapped body oils and sweat. Unfortunately, a lot of consumers had trouble finding Wisk's winning formula in stores and I suspect that's the reason it wasn't included in their 2014 test sample. By the way, the price for it here on Amazon is outrageous. A 100 fl oz bottle of this Wisk version can be purchased on the Walmart web site for $8.97 as of October 2014.HE washing machine owners might also want to consider Kirkland Signature Free and Clear 2X Concentrate Ultra Clean Premium Laundry Detergent. Consumer Reports scored it at 71 out of 100 point possible and it only costs .11/oz. Target's Up & Up HE Free & Clear liquid scored 61 out of 100 points possible (same score as this reviewed product) and costs just .12/oz. All Oxi-active Free Clear Detergent, 100 Fl Oz (1) costs just .14/oz and scored 60 point out of 100 possible in Consumer Reports tests. But again, all of the "clear" detergents mentioned in this paragraph were only tested in HE machines, not standard top-loaders (they may also work in standard top-loaders but they weren't tested for this use by Consumer Reports).This Tide Ultra Free and Gentle does a good job for me and I like that despite being a powder, it is rated as very good in cool water. That's impressive for any powder and especially one that is formulated for standard top-loading machines like mine. I just wish it wasn't so expensive.Hope this was helpful.

Tide Ultra Free & Gentle Powder Laundry Detergent, 30 Loads, 42 OzI am an all natural, homemade kind of person, but that just wasn't working for my newborn baby or his cloth diapers. I tried this because it was recommended by my pediatrician. We wash the diapers, all my baby clothes, blankets, sheets, etc. and our own clothes in this now. It has gotten everything clean, hasn't built up on the diapers, has not bothered the baby's skin and has none of that over powering laundry smell. Thanks to gocleanco - I found a new love and appreciation for powdered tide. Unfortunately - my family members were being heavy handed with liquid detergents and it was ruining my clothes! I have a relatively new washer dryer, and I’d put brand new clothes in the wash, and they’d come out with these greasy oily spots that never lifted! It drove me nuts. I found out it was left over liquid detergent residue in my machine causing these splotchy stains. So I switched over to powder (I prefer the free and gentle) and we are using less detergent per wash and saving money! No more residue left in my machine and funky weird stains! Go cleanco has an Instagram and they even show you how to use powdered tide to clean around the house, so it’s a multipurpose cleaner and I am here for it!

We were looking for an environmentally cleaner laundry soap but wanted one that wasn't scented with peppermint or lavender and this fit the bill. It cleans well and seems to remove some stains etc., no better than regular laundry powder but no worse. Its a bit more expensive per load, not much, but enough that buying the 2 pack of these took some consideration of our tight budget. All in all, this is a great alternative to conventional laundry soaps/detergents and even a good alternative to the hyper-natural soaps/detergents like Molly's Suds or Charlie's Soap. I figure its not as hypoallergenic as a washing soda based laundry soap but is better than regular Tide.

Tide powder is impossible to find in our stores and thankfully I was able to find it on Amazon. We love this allergen friendly powder>

I've used Tide Free for many years – it gets the laundry clean without irritating my sensitive skin. And I prefer to use powdered soap in my font loading washer – helps prevent mildew smell. There are tons of vendors for this product but I appreciate that these folks shrink wrap the Tide box, so it arrives without soap spilling out everywhere.

I ordered this for my elderly sister because she couldn't find it in the store during this pandemic. She has many allergies, but this Tide product doesn't irritate her skin. Plus this Tide is unscented, which is perfect for her. She said it's the only product she can use.

I like the fact that it’s a powder. It’s a lot lighter to carry to the laundry room and it I save money and put a lot less toxic chemicals into the environment. It also works really good.
