I read all his books as a kid and wanted to introduce them to my great niece.

All Things Bright and Beautiful by James Herriot is the first of five wonderful volumes! The series deals with the life and cases dealt with my young James Herriot who moves from Glasgow to rural Yorkshire in the late 1930s. He becomes a partner of Siegfried Farnum and they establish a successful vet practice largely dealing with cows, sheep, horses and domestic animals such as dogs and cats! This glorious memoir (partly fictionalized) will make you laugh and cry! The character sketches of Herriot's human clients are lovingly drawn. The title of the book is taken from a line in Cecil Francis Alexander's hymn. This book is now being serialized on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre in an excellent retelling of the classic story!Superb! Highly recommended!

From what I have heard so far, the book and the different character parts are read very pleasantly. And I am pleased to have it on physical CDs!

Good grief! Two stars for this fabulous book who cares what the cover looks like when the content is so absolutely outstanding! By the way I love the cover shows Dr. Harriet in his beloved Yorkshire. Sorry to be so passionate but this truly is one of the greatest series of all times if you love animals and to give it 2 stars might make the book look unappealing to someone that's not read it, all four books are worth reading over and over again.
