Buy the single disc edition
I bought this CD to round out my Procol Harum digital collection. I have the original vinyl. When I saw there was a deluxe edition of Home for a few more bucks, I decided to spring for it, for the alternate takes on the 2nd CD. Other than the one track produced by George Martin (which you really have to listen to closely to hear any difference from the version issued originally), the rest of the alternate takes aren't worth listening to. Most are really poor recording, not even novelties. Hard to believe they threw that stuff together. If you want a copy of Home, buy the single CD version and save a few bucks and space on your CD rack. The album itself is not one of Procol's best, but it reveals their dramatic transition from A Salty Dog to Broken Barricades -- two of their most important albums IMO. You can hear Robin Trower working up to Memorial Drive and Poor Mohammed. As others note, the subject matter is quite dark, lots about death and dying, which makes it hard to listen to a lot. Funny -- I still find myself singing these tunes, anyway. If you're a serious fan, Home should be in your collection. Heaven knows Procol didn't produce enough albums, so enjoy this one!

Still there will be more wailing stories
Full disclosure: Home is my personal favorite Procol Harum recording. Whisky Train is my favorite Robin Trower performance...ever.The above should let you know everything about what I think of "Home". If you like P.H., then I suggest you purchase this item. If you like when R.T plays in-your-face guitar, then this is your next stop. If you do not already own this disc, then order it post-haste. If you own an earlier CD version of this title, then you may want a new and better-sounding remastered recording. This title and Broken Barricades are the twin peaks of Procol's oeuvre. Of course, that is just one man's personal opinion. Your mileage may vary.

HARDER ROCKING SOUND MAKE THIS ALBUM STRONGER SOUNDING.
THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE 2015 2 CD EDITION FROM ESOTERIC RECORDS.Released in 1970 "Home" follows the band's three previous albums with much the same sound--except that Trower's guitar takes center stage on a number of tracks. The band's sound has taken on a more powerful overall sound that gives the songs some needed firepower. Chances are if you're reading this you're already a fan and know the music on this album, so dissecting each track is pretty pointless. About the only reason to purchase this edition is for the sound--which is open and seemingly more spacious sounding, and for the extra tracks. But if you're happy with the 2009 edition there's no need to upgrade except for the bonus tracks. Plus these new editions are not as tall as the 2009 packaging so they fit alongside other CD cases with no trouble. The quad-fold cardboard packaging is nice. The discs snap inside and the CD trays have some nice graphics. Included is a poster that's an ad for the album with song lyrics on the backside. The booklet has some period photos and individual track information taken from Henry Scot-Irvine's book on the band. The two extra tracks on the 2009 edition are here along with a demo of "Your Own Choice", a different take each of "Barnyard...", and "...Dead Man's...", a George Martin mix of "About To Die", an extended remix of "Your Own Choice", a Chris Thomas remix of "Piggy...", a U.S. radio edit of "Whiskey Train", and two unreleased performances from a BBC Radio One session, "Your Own Choice", and "About To Die". All tracks are from 1970 except the demo which is from 1969.So if you're a deep fan and/or a collector of Procol Harum's albums you'll probably want to add this to your music shelf. But as I said, if the 2009 edition suits you fine, and you don't care about the extra tracks then save your money. But saying that I have to say that I really like this band and have since the days of vinyl, so I like having this 2015 edition of the album--along with the first three albums. Procol Harum was a great band that should be more well known than just for a couple of singles that helped define the "summer of love".

Another excellent reissue/ blast from the past
As I have said on previous Procol harum reviews. I have brought all the band's remastered albums I am slowly playing them all. This double cd is like all of the others that I have played so far, in that I am struggling to decide which is my favourite. The one thing that I noticed is the first 2 track's seem to have the vocals mixed right down, perhaps that's the way the band wanted it. So far my favourite cd is exotic birds and fruit. Not everyone will agree but I suppose if we all liked the same things wouldn't it be a boring world.

Home revisited
I bought this on vinyl when first released in 1970 and again on CD but this edition is absolutely brilliant. It brought Trower to the fore as a top guitarist and Wilson's drumming is superb.

Long Way from Whiter Shade
I see why music critics back in the early 70's considered "Home" as Procol's finest work. The tongue in cheek lyrics of "Still There'll Be More"'s show lyricist Reid's darker side. Brooker's vocal range is at its height, and this album was the coming out party for Robin Trower. While 1 or 2 songs lumber, the balance of the songs are strong rockers (Whisky Train) or rock opuses (Whaling Stories) No matter the song, Procol Harum's musicianship shines on brightly through.
