PendletonMen's Shetland Wool Pullover Mens Sweater

two stars.
Best sweater I've ever owned. Ordering 2 more.Update: Worn several times, washed once (on delicate wash, no drier). I have three of these and they are all pilling badly (the light gray is the worst). Really disappointed. $90 and this sweater isn't going to last more than one season. These will be my last purchases from Pendleton (unless it's vintage).

Great fit, function, color and material
Usually wear XLT but got this in XL since there is no tall option but it fits great. I have long arms and torso and the sweater is long enough all around. The fit is essentially fitted unlike a lot of China-origin products that have a lot of extra material. The wool is very good quality. The charcoal and coffee heathers are great colors, especially the darker charcoal which has flecks of other color throughout. Also looked at teal and oat. Those are good colors but not as rich and vibrant as the darker colors. It's a medium weight which makes it substantial enough for cold weather but it can also be worn inside and will fit under pea coats or car coats with no problem. In summary, great fit in XL even though I normally wear XLT, nice material, good all around weight and vibrant colors....getting 3 before the cut or material change.

Good Shetland Crew-neck PULLOVER (not a cardigan!)
Amazon calls this Pendleton sweater a cardigan (which is the name of a sweater that buttons or zips in the front), but it's a pullover crew-neck sweater - and it's not grouped among Amazon's pullover sweaters, which is a mistake.I purchased two, liked them, and purchased two more. The medium size I would judge to be size 42, which is large according to most men's clothing sizes (36-37 = Small; 38-40 = Medium; 42-44 = Large). The sleeves are quite long, and the set-in shoulder falls off the shoulder. A Shetland wool crew-neck ought to be slightly roomy. It's a cool-weather, foggy-mist or drizzle pullover that can be bloused at the waist or kept long on the trunk and also cover the hands.Shetland wool is soft, but it's not as soft as lambswool; and lambswool isn't as soft as Merino wool. These Pendleton sweaters are a medium weave, neither loose nor tight. The wool thread isn't long, so it tends to 'ball' from wear, which is normal; a sweater brush or hair brush can keep the sweater's nap in good condition. The crew-neck's vertical weave 'collar' has been handsomely attached with a folded inside blind weave, so it blends well without looking sewn on. The collar doesn't have that integrated woven look of a much more expensive sweater, but it looks quite good.I haven't washed the sweater yet. Pendleton allows machine washing and light machine drying. I've machine washed and dryer dried other Shetland crews, and I've found that they become much softer. Also, the weave closes as the yarns shrink slightly. The colors are quite lovely.

New Manufacturer? Latest Purchase is Disappointing
This was once my favorite sweater: my benchmark for all sweaters. I have one of these sweaters (exactly the same except different color)I bought years ago; I have many Pendleton Shirts and I love these. I bought the Navy Blue in early December and it looked and wears great and it's really warm. But by the end of the month it had worn very quickly, with the wool material balling up very badly. I wore it a few more times in January, mainly because its so warm (this is why I manage to give the rating as high as I do). I'm back to wearing my older Shetland Crew sweater of the same Brand (same label). I didn't wear this everyday and actually alternated with another sweater (different Brand) that I bought in the same order in early December and it still looks fine. I can only guess that a different manufacturer got the latest contract to make these. Something's different. I hope Pendleton headquarters looks into this (please do), because this is or used to be my favorite sweater. If this is their new standard of manufacturing, I won't buy another.

Wool garments translates to Pendleton for me
Comfortable, good fitting sweater. Size is right on, I’m an XL. I bought the coffee color because anything related to coffee can’t be all bad, and that color was almost $20 less than this sweater in the more popular colors. About medium as to warmth, no gaps in the knit or joined seams.I favor Pendleton wool garments over any others: Pendleton products look good, seem to fit me well and last.

Ah! Warmth and beauty - an unbeatable sweater
#1 Terrific warmth . #2 = Perfect fit -- I'm 5'10" 175lbs 16 X 33 Light grey donegal Pendelton in large. This is a quality sweater which I was fortunate to discover on sale and immediately purchase from Amazon. As a So-Cal resident taking a fall vacation into Pennsylvania and New York this was my most important purchase.Layered up with this over a L/S Tee and a light jacket resulted in blessed comfort in 44F-48F and 12mph breeze + some rain.Chuckle all you want, Eastern hardies, it ain't easy if you're from out west. GREAT SWEATER, thank you, Pendleton!

good, old-fashioned, no-frills wool
Bought this to golf in wet weather, as, unless it's pouring, I prefer a woolsweater to rain gear. The freedom of movement is almost infinitelybetter, and it should wear like iron. It's a little scratchy unless another shirtis worn beneath, but it's wool. What else would you expect?

Great quality and warm
Great wool sweater. My husband is normally and XL and we ordered a XXL so that he could wear other shirts comfortably underneath. It’s loose on him but very comfortable. He didn’t want a fitted sweater. The wool is good quality and warm. It’s perfect for camping because it doesn’t feel heavy or wet when the weather is damp. It also doesn’t get stinky after many days over wearing around a campground and after hikes.

Beautiful
Beautiful sweater - lovely quality material and colour. Unfortunately mine looks like it might have once had a security tag under the sleeve as there's a large hole in it but it's not obvious when worn.
