Yes. The ones that come with this radio arent of very good quality. I have purchased higher quality headphones that fit comfortably on my head/ears and that makes this little radio awsome to listen to.

Q: can this be listened to without headphones, what I mean does it have an external speaker? I'm afraid I will have to send this back

Headphones needed. No external speaker. They do have a model with weather band and an external speaker.

Q: Can this be used with an aux cable instead of headphones? Or will the reception suffer if the cable is too short? Or is there a built in antenna?

I have only used this radio with corded headphones, where the reception has always been excellent. It is a wonderful AM/FM receiver and sells at a very reasonable price, IMO. You are not out much if it doesn't work as you intend to use it.

Do you still carry older units without the clock feature? non clock feature units have fm stereo labeled on front, clock feature runs down battery.
