Good headphones, not great microphone
comfortable and good sound, but microphone leaves much to be desired. Everyone I tested it with said it sounded very muffled, and since there's no way to adjust it, it goes back. Let the search continue...

3.5 is the right rating for this headset.
I am always looking for the perfect set of headphones so I was delighted to accept the Wotech® Crack Pattern Over-Ear Wired Stereo Gaming Headset for review. When the headset arrived I immediately opened the box and got out my IPod for my first test of this gear. Sorry, no sound came from the IPod when the headset was attached to it. OK, no problem, what about my laptop – again no luck. The final test was with the desktop computer I am using right now. I struck out. Nothing worked.OK, let me look at the instructions. I must have missed something. I looked high and low in the box for a user’s guide but none was included with the headset. Then, I thought, information must be available on the headset box. Hmm, everything is written in Chinese and I must admit to my readers that I don’t read or speak Chinese – no surprise there.I struck out with the headset and just put it away thinking I got a lemon. However, the next day I was looking at my USB external charger and I thought I would experiment and attach the headset to the charger just to see what would happen. Bingo. Lights, action, camera – the headset turned on and started rotating through its various colors. I decided to leave the headset plugged in for an hour, which I did.Part two of this story, if my readers are still with me.Now I went through the drill again. First I plugged in my IPod, which I will repeat and do right now. I am now listening carefully to U2’s great Grammy winning song, Beautiful Day. The sound coming from the headset is clear, but somewhat muted and not as crisp as I expected, particularly when listening to Edge’s great guitar work. For my second song I picked the Byrds wonderful cover of Bob Dylan’s Chimes of Freedom so I could listen to Roger McGuinn’s excellent 12 string Rickenbaker guitar. This song sounds crisp and clear with that Rickenbaker coming through loud and clear. Now for my favorite Arlo Guthrie song, Coming into Los Angeles. The backbeat of the drums was distinct and the guitar work mellow, as intended, I think.Moving on, I now have the headset plugged into my HP desktop and for my first song I am listening to John Denver’s cover of The Bells of Rhymney. John was an underrated guitarist. He tells us that he wants his twelve string guitar to sound initially like bells, and he succeeds. The headset gives just the right timbre to the music. Next I went to one of the great opera performances of all time, Maria Callas singing Vissi d’Arte from Tosca at Covent Garden. The sound of Callas’ great voice comes through loud and clear. For purity of sound it is difficult to beat young Jackie Evancho and her performance of Nella Fantasia. I was not thrilled with the sound, which was a bit muddy, but the great high notes did come through and no one sings with more purity and clarity at the top than young Jackie. To finish the test I went with Miley Cyrus and Adriana Grande’s fine cover of Crowded House’s classic, Don’t Dream It’s Over and I was pleased with the gritty performance of the two ladies, who sing well on this song.Concluding comments: The Wotech headset is good, not great, which is what I would expect for $29.99. It is a genuinely comfortable headset. After an hour or so of testing, I felt good wearing this over the ears, soft foam covered headset. I am at a complete loss to understand the thinking of a manufacturer who would send out a product in the USA enclosed in a box with Chinese writing on it and who would not include at least some minimal instructions for use of the gear. If I hadn’t experimented with my USB charger, I wouldn’t be writing this review at all, except to say the headset didn’t work. Amazon doesn’t let me give 3.5 stars, so I will round up to four stars.
