How does this compare to the Aveda grooming clay for men?

Works about the same as the regular grooming clay, and has the same mat finish (no shine). However, it holds better in wet conditions. I would recommend it even if you don't need thickening.

Good for medium long hair? Also my hair tends to part down the middle which I hate, will this help to lock my hair back if I style the pushed back?

Does this have fragrance? Looking doe something with no or low added fragrances.

I would say no. It may have a little fragrance when you put it in your hands to apply but I've never thought it was strong. I know I can't smell it once applied to my hair. Hope that helps!

does this gel leave flakes
