Q: Anyone is experienced with this device working with the client software on a guest running in VMWare (5.5)?

Since it's communicates over TCP/IP, it doesn't matter what hypervisor you're running. As long as you can install the client software in the guest VM (which, sadly, is Windows only), it'll work.
