Our raised bed used to be raided at night by slugs. We live in the Northwest and there are millions of them.The copper interacts with the slug slime and "short circuits" them. They will not go over it. If you are concerned about the health of the slugs ... it will not kill them nor poison them, just shock them away.I tried the less-than-two inches wide copper strip, with mixed resuts - mostly failures.Place the four inch strip two or three inches - not much more- below the top edge of whatever you want to protect.Make sure the surface is really dry and free of dust or other substances that woul diminish the strength of the adhesion.The strip should last a good number of years. It will oxidize with time - that is what copper does - but it will not ruin it, or diminish the protection.A slug in your neighbors yard is better than one in yours. :-)
