Looks cute and seems good for blocking gnats.
I purchased the regular size 1 gallon bag. In retrospect, I wish I had gotten the 1.5 cubic feet because I ended up needing more to cover the surface of about five pots.Originally, I was going to line the bottom of my citrus tree pot to improve drainage to deal with a fungus gnat infestation. Then I read about how lining the bottom of your pot doesn't actually help with drainage. Because the bottom of your soil mass will always retain water regardless of what's below it. So instead of adding gravel, I just removed excess soil. Then I decided to line the top of my plants to prevent fungus gnats or fruit flies from being able to nest in the soil surface.Back to the gravel:At first I thought I wanted the mini size, but it was not available for fast shipping, so I went with the regular. I was concerned it would not cover the top well enough to block the gnats, but after pouring it in, it looks like it will work really well. And I actually like the large size because it will be easier to remove later when I repot it.I also think that the gravel is cute. I think it improved the look of one of my pots that had a lot of exposed soil.Overall, I think this is a great alternative to gravel or sand. It seems like it may allow for more air flow. The best part about it is it doesn't weigh much. And of course, also finding a use for recycled plastic is great. I'm glad I found this product.

Useful, Lighter, and Good for the Environment
This really is a great product to replace gravel. I try to look for ways to make my lifestyle more sustainable, and when I fell upon this, I was excited to try it out in my garden. I use it in the bottom of my pots to help with drainage and make the pots lighter to move around. It has helped so much, especially with my mother who loves to move stuff around but has a bad back. My plants are looking beautiful so far, and I am excited for the spring and summer to try different ways of using this product. Useful and feels great to use recycled material in my gardening! Definitely will be buying more this season.

Excellent
I've taken up gardening and found it very therapeutic for my MS and being homebound. I wanted to grow roses and geraniums in these beautiful Yellow ceramic pots of my mother's. They didn't have drain holes and I'm not too handy, however I'm resourceful and industrious by nature so I called some of my friends who have pretty green thumbs. They told me to fill the pot about two thirds full of gravel and 1/3 full of potting soil. Worked like a charm. Gorgeous white roses and lovely red geraniums. It's sustainable, light weight, very easy to work with and brings me an easy, affordable solution and a lot of joy. Great product. I've used it on top of low quality soil cover that I've tilled and added quality soil and vitamins to, lined and shaped grow bags with it and in pots and gotten great results.

This stuff is the real deal!
You get get a lot of product for not a lot of money AND it's helping to clean all the plastic from our oceans. If you don't know the urgency of the need to clean our oceans watch, "A Plastic Ocean" on Netflix. It will truly turn your stomach and fill you with the same urgency this company and I already know. Back to the product! I always used to put gravel in my planters for better drainage and root aeration but the gravel was damaging my roots so this year I went in search of something different and after looking at $35-$40 5lb. bags of smooth stones, I ran across this product so I decided to give it a try since it was really a low price and for a cause I truly believe in. I debated getting two bags but settled on one at first and I'm glad I did! One bag is huge and extremely lightweight. I was able to fill about 1/4 to 1/3 full on 7 various size pots from medium (about 3lb. pots) to huge (10lb. pots) with one bag! You have to try this Smart Gravel! You will be very happy that you did!

Love these!
This smart gravel has been a great addition to my plant growing hobby. The large gravel is great for indoor pots with no drainage! I use the small gravel on the top of the dirt to discourage fungus gnats. The colors of the small gravel is pleasing to look at as well. This gravel is very lightweight which is good for not compacting soil and makes the pots lighter than alternative gravel. I am glad it's made out of recycled materials

Good but something to think about…
Okay, so I don’t have an issue with the quality of this product but this wasn’t something that I thought about when choosing between the regular and the mini… if you’re looking to put these at the bottom of a pot with a small drainage hole & an attached saucer… YOU NEED some kind of mesh so that you don’t clog the actual drainage hole with the pebbles. Kind of defeats the purpose…

Recommend!
Plants that I’ve had trouble with are now thriving since adding this to the bottom of their pot.

Great way to keep plastic out of landfills.
Perfect size to not leak out of drain holes, lightweight way to fill in the bottom of pots so use less soil and larger pots are lighter, and provide extra drainage area at bottom of pots. Will absolutely buy more.
