Alphonse Mucha

Great seller, would highly recommend.

This book may not contain all of Mucha's paintings but includes most of his best known ones plus many photos of him and his models and other inspirations as well as his preliminary pencil sketches which, as an illustrator, I find just as interesting and illuminating. They show what an equally amazing draughtsman Mucha was.The hardcover version of the book is beautiful, large enough to do his artwork justice, with several of them displayed full-page, but not overly heavy and easy to flip through. The print quality is impeccable: the image reproductions are sharp, with good contras and the colours are bright and vivid. The book is fairly light on text and let the art do most of the talking so may not be the most informative document if you are writing a paper on the artist.The cover art is printed directly on the carboard (and not on a paper jacket) which allows it to survive shipping much better. I also loves its mat finish which gives it a very classy feel. The book's binding is irreproachable, allowing you to open the book flat with no risk of the pages coming apart.Overall this is one of the best, most beautiful books you can get for a lover of Mucha's art and is a great visual reference book for any illustrator and graphic designer.As an aside, the Taschen book on Mucha is by the same writer and contains many of the same paintings but missed a few of my favourite ones (like the moon and stars series) and is generally much lighter in content. However the latter is also about half the cost of this one and is still a great Mucha book if you are on a budget.
