No where near as good as hoped
I bought this because there were a number of positive reviews but I am bitterly disappointed with it. So disappointed I have thrown it away and replaced it with a Kitchen Devil [ I VERY highly recommend ]. So here are my observations:1. This sharpener really generates steel filings so I guess it is doing something, but it looks worryingly hard on the blades!2. The suction grip was VERY WEAK and we had a few slips.3. Solid German carving knife (bought new 10 years ago) did not get sharp4. NoisySo I have thrown it away. Maybe it's your favourite utensil but wasn't mine. Buy the Kitchen Devil insteadErr... I'm not sure if we are allowed to recommend alternate products but that's my opinion

Revives knife blades.
After reading many positive reviews about this knife sharpener I thought of giving it a try.I have many kitchen knives that over the years their blade became dull and not as sharp as it was.You simply use the lever to attach the suction bottom to hard surface and you are ready to go. I pass the knife and through the sharpener a couple of times without using too much force. The results are amazing. Knives regain their initial razor sharp cutting power. Even heavily used knives become brand new again.I couldn’t be happier with the results.Highly recommended!

I was sceptical!
As a former professional chef I have a number of decent knives that are now in the daily rotation to the main kitchen. That being the case I no longer strive to keep them sharp 24/7. So they’ve been neglected slightly.Previously if I’ve had an knife that’s needed a new edge you’d normally have to crack out the grinder to put an edge on the knife - not any more.I’ve brought back the edge on my Globals, Sabatier and Victorinox(Serated Tomato) knives with minimal effort. You do get a good amount of metal shavings while sharpening but you find you get a perfect 45 degree angle either side of the blade. My only peeve is with the suction cup, had a few occasions when it came loose, however, I was sharpening lots of knives in one session so your average user wouldn’t put the suction cup under that much pressure.

So good, I bought it twice
This is my second AnySharp Pro knife sharpener. I chose the Pro both times because it's solidly built with the majority of the components in metal as opposed to plastic for the cheaper models. My ham fisted son managed to break the plastic handle on my first by dropping it, but it's so good I just had to replace it.I know there have been some negative comments about these sharpeners, and I can understand why - yes, they can remove an alarming amount of metal from the blade and if you were only using one of these enthusiastically every time you sharpen your knives I'm sure the rate of wear would be very high.I use a steel to regularly restore the edge on my knives, only using the AnySharp to restore a new edge when the steel no longer restores the edge on its own. This works really well for me.The only blades I won't use this for are my Global knives. These Japanese made knives have an edge sharpened to between 10 and 15 degrees whereas the AnySharp is preset to give an edge of 20 degrees and although they advertise the product as suitable for Global brand knives, I wouldn't want to risk spoiling the edge permanentlyFor most types of blade though, this sharpener works well, is pretty much foolproof and is very reasonably priced. It works
I own a chef knife and some wet stones I would typically use for shapening. However, the wetstones are messy and time consuming and I'm lazy.I honestly only purchased this sharpener because I was trying to spend enough to get free delivery on another order. It just arrived today and I'm impressed.I started with a smaller knife that was inexpensive and I cared less about. I did a tomato test and a paper test prior to sharpening and again after. It went from squishing/chopping prior to sharpening to slicing afterwards. I was very impressed and continued to sharpening my chef knife. The results were even better. The thing I like most about the product is that it took less than 12 swipes to bring a bad knife from useless to sharp enough to slice paper, taking less than 30 seconds. A wetstone would have taken me at least 30 minutes.I don't think this device will sharpen as well as my wetstones are capable, but they will make my knives more than sharp enough and do so very quickly. I value my time and predict my laziness will see my new anysharp pro sees a lot more use than my wetstones will from here on.I have some concerns about the product lasting, but it does feel solid. As long as this product lasts a good amount of time, this review will likely remain at 5 stars.
