Round Trip

My daughter loved this book. We had it memorized. The pictures create an optical illusion. When you reach the last page, it's "time to turn around." You turn the book upside down, and read the rest of the story. Charming, smart, heart warming. Now our grandchildren enjoy it! We purchased for our daughter when she was 4. It's well worn and well loved.

This is a brilliant book. An engaging story with unique illustrations. I have bought several copies and given them away as gifts.

I loved this as a kid and bought it for my friends' kids (5 and 3). They loved it, too. It's definitely suitable for older kids.

The illustrations in this book make it one of my favorites. I have searched for others with reversible pictures and have concluded that this treasure is one of a kind. It is a work of art! You'll keep it after the children are grown!

I first saw this book at the school I worked at. The teacher had read it to her first grade class and did an art project on it. I absolutely fell in love with the book and decided to buy a copy. The book came to me in perfect condition and regardless of how many times I read it, I am still amazed by the author's talent at creating such a lovely story and I still read it to people whenever I can.For those who are wondering about the nature of this book, it is essentially a book that reads both ways back and forth, right-side up and upside-down. The entire book is made up of monochromatic images that relies heavily on the use of interchanging foregrounds and backgrounds.You will not be disappointed by this book!

My grandchildren loved the idea of this book, which reads all the way through one way then flips over and reads back the other! The illustrations are ingenious, somewhat similar to the old drawings of an old woman which when turned upside down reveal a beautiful young woman. Fun reading the first time through then additional fun reading and studying the illustrations to see how the are put together to make two images. A delightful change from the usual picture book.

My infants stared at the pages of this book! The black and white pictures are perfectly made for a baby's interest. I give it as a baby gift. After receiving Round Trip from me other mothers have started the tradition as well. Of course, that use was probably not the author's intention. The craft of this book is amazing. The pictures front to back illustrate a day's trip from home to the city. Turn the book upside down and the same pictures show the evening sites on the journey back home. I would love to hear how Ann Jonas constructed the idea and art. Because of the high "awe" of the construction my elementary students are intrigued as well.

I work in a very busy school library and I've read this book to our primary classes for years - they love it - I love it. The visuals are amazing!

The pictures and story are unique: a journey through town and country in black and white pictures and simple text. It works as an optical illusion that the children in my class loved. A very cleverly conceived book that works on many levels and can be enjoyed over and over.
