No. Cuddl duds are smoother. I have the duofold and it is a nice comfortable layer. They have waffle like fabric in it.

Q: Does this top run true to size?

I have approx. 27 of these Duofold Shirts in XL and I wanted more, but these NO LONGER run true to size. When ordering an XL it fit more like a tight Large and no I did not gain weight. The 27 I already had in various colors in size XL still fit.

Q: Is this single or 2 layer underwear?

Single layer....I can wear it under a sweater or by itself under a warm heavy coat. Love it !!

Q: Would this top be good for hiking/backpacking? just wondering how good the moisture wicking is.

This is cotton so it absorbs moisture. If it gets wet, it is not going to keep you warm, because it does not wick moisture away from your body.
