The 13.5 Lives Of Captain Bluebear

Delightful and slightly weird book
A blue bear is found floating on the seas, and rescued by mini pirates. These mini pirates are born with wooden legs and hooks for arms, & spend most of their lives trying to rob ships, but fail, as they are tiny.So starts this funny book. The bear grows up, and goes on many adventures in the land of Zamonia, making friends with inter-dimensional creatures, thoughts (yes ,really) in the head of a giant, a professor with 7 brains who believes intelligence is a disease that can be transmitted via germs. One of the great parts of the book are Moer's drawings. Every time you meet a new creature, or place, there is usually a drawing. And the text, well, Moer uses it in a new way as well. So when the bear is being chased by a giant spider gaining on him, he can hear the crashing sound of its feet as it gets closer. Moer uses progressively larger text for the word crash, till that one word takes up almost the whole page. No points for guessing where the spider is at that moment. While it may seem like a kids book, I think most people who have enjoyed it are adults. Great start to a series, I highly recommend this.

Although this was not the first book I read from Walter Moers (I really love Rumo, BY FAR
I grew up watching recorded German TV programs for children, with Captain Bluebear and his Munchhausen-like stories being a constant. Although this was not the first book I read from Walter Moers (I really love Rumo, BY FAR!), this was his first book of the Zamonia series, and I am glad that he began using his most famous character.I read the original in German and I was rather skeptical about how good the translation would be. So, before I gave away this book as a present, I read my favourite chapter, and I am glad to say that the English version keeps most of the charm of the original.

Product arrived in good condition, story itself disappointing
Product arrived on time and in good condition, just the actual story itself. Was reviewed as “authors similar to Terry Pratchett”.... nope. Vaguely interesting at first and then meanders for too long when time is so precious. Try Locke Lamorra instead ... awesome!

Loved this fantastic tale
Loved this fantastic tale, but I removed a star becasue one of the chapters starts off badly in my opinion. Overall a wonderful read, with great illustration.
