Great recipes for a healthy habit & food choice
If you are thinking about adding fruit & vegetable (green) smoothies to your diet, or if you already drink green smoothies but need some variety in your smoothies--then this may very well be the (recipe) book for you. It's a great recipe resource that has re-energized my desire & intention to drink green smoothies by adding a great deal of variety to the smoothies I make. And it's all compiled in single source book that I now keep in my kitchen and refer to several times a week.As a disclaimer, I am NOT a person that only eats raw foods, nor am I a vegetarian or vegan. A lot of the information regarding fruit & veggie smoothies seems either naturally suited for the raw-fooders/vegies/vegans, or at least inherently pointed in their direction.Don't get me wrong... I like fruits, greens, and veggies. I am just not slavishly attached to the (food) ideologies that often seem to swirl around the 'literature' of the healthy-eating proponents. I also eat chicken, red meat, and seafood. That said, I am a 'quiet fan' of green smoothies. I feel great after I drink green smothies, and drinking them has really improved my health--and my body really likes them. Now that my body is used to green smoothies, I can tell that my body is almost anticipating the smoothy as I am making one.The downside of drinking green smoothies regularly is that the green smoothies themselves can become very monotonously repetitive. So this book is a fantastic recipe resource; it has injected the 'spice of variety' into the healthy habit of drinking green smoothies. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is either new to green smoothies or currently drinks them. And I have put my money where my mouth is... When friends express a genuine interest in green smoothies, I simply send them a copy of this book.Great resource and great 'bang for the buck'--and for a healthy habit that tastes good.Proof positive that one can enjoy the recipes without 'joining the revolution'.

Green Smoothies - The NEXT Generation
Victoria Boutenko's first book on green smoothies, Green For Life, covers the subject so thoroughly and clearly that I wondered what more she would find to create the basis for a second book. I was not disappointed! Green Smoothie Revolution offers dozens of new recipes that show off the smoothie's versatility and inspire you with new creative ideas. You can make a thicker smoothie and serve it as a savoury soup. Or make it thick and sweet and voilá -it's a satisfying pudding! There are also recipes for children or those who are new to green smoothies, and super green smoothie recipes for those who are wanting more green intensity! Some recipes feature wild or unusual greens, like grape leaves and milk thistle. In addition to the extensive recipe section, there is a brief chapter to inspire pregnant moms (and dads!) to drink green smoothies every day to ensure a healthy pregancy, comfortable birthing time and super healthy baby. I use this chapter - and green smoothie snacks - in my Hypnobabies childbirth education class. In another chapter, Clent Manich tells how he lost 230 pounds and gained strength, endurance and health benefits (and climbed Mt Whitney) in a year on a primarily green smoothie diet - very inspiring!!The book contains enough basic information about preparing and drinking green smoothies to get you on your feet and blending! To gain a thorough understanding of all aspects of the subject, I recommend that you read both of Victoria's ground-breaking books - Green For Life (indispensible and very enlightening) AND The Green Smoothie Revolution (for the REST of the story). Why not have it all?

Basic introduction to a readily adoptable approach to improving nutrition
Good basic information about "green smoothies", and the benefits of drinking them. The book educates without going into a lot of arcane detail, although some may wish for more technical, "science-y" content (for which I myself do not care). Given the low price of the book (I bought the paperback), you really owe it to yourself to investigate this method of increasing your greens intake significantly. Lots of tasty, easy to prepare recipes, mostly with ingredients that are available in most markets (my recommendation: obtain locally grown organics exclusively, if you can manage it). You will learn quickly that you need to plan your menus ahead very specifically, to obtain your fresh greens, veggies and fruits/berries at least weekly, so as to minimize or eliminate any wasted purchases, and support consistent daily consumption. If you can "grow your own", more power to you, but most urban dwellers will want to acquaint themselves with a good market that provides a consistent supply of local organics, such as PCC (in the Seattle/Puget Sound area, where I live), or farmer's markets/co-op's, for example. Overall, the author does not get preachy, but instead assumes you are intelligent enough to see these benefits, and are motivated to incorporate them into your life. Didn't read any of the "testimonial" stuff though; as with all lifestyle changes, your results will vary. :-)

More than Expected
I've been saving up for a high speed blender forever (Blendtec), and when the time came to spend all my hard earned cash, I knew that I needed some motivation to actually use the the darn thing. Alas, Victoria's book. I've been wanting to go raw for a while but just couldn't do it, so my compromise was to drink green smoothies. The book was all that I expected and more. There are tonnes of delicious recipes to accommodate every palate including those of the 3 most finicky men in my life; my husband, my 6 and 4 year old sons. I also have a 10 month old daughter who gulps the green smoothies it out of a straw everday (I make on average 3 different smoothies a day). Three months and five hundred smoothies later, our family has benefited greatly from this book. We all feel healthier, and more energetic. Did I mention that I haven't caught a cold all winter?

You must buy this book - it should have a government Great Health Endorsement on the cover
I heartily endorse Mimi's excellent review. What I would like to do is share how I put the messages in the book into practice and trust that it will help potential buyers to purchase this book. When I first came across this book I instinctively knew this was the path for me to follow to improve my general well being and restore my shaky health. I set out and bought a blender and then waited 2 weeks before using it. I was buying different fruits and greens - and they sat in my fridge. Then one afternoon I decided to just make one; it was improvised but followed the idea of a chunky soup - salad greens, garlic, fresh ginger, 2 red chillies, 2 sticks of celery, roasted red peppers from a jar, a bunch of parsley, 2 large tomatoes and blitzed. At first it did not seem to blend then I added a cup of filtered tap water and then a second - that did the trick.I have to say the results were amazing - a gorgeous melange of flavours. Satisfying and totally moreish.I have not looked back since - neither will you once you take the plunge. I now plan what I am going to make each morning and then collect what I require from my local asian store. The recepies in the book are great and quite detailed - I have used them as a launching pad to develop my own concoctions. Not one has ever been a disappointment.I have bought the book as presents for my family. Buy, Buy, Buy!
