Review: Happy Wife - Add me to the other men here who have watched their wives get the upper hand on hot flashes, night sweats and the accompanying insomnia from perimenopausal symptoms with this product. I bought it based on these reviews so was compelled to add some information to help other couples who may be in a similar situation make a choice on the purchase. Thank goodness for reviews, I would have been reluctant to drop $450 without them. Let me start by clarifying a point I was wondering before my purchase - unless both partners need the product and you sleep in a large bed (we have a King), go ahead and purchase the twin. This product is flat - it does not have fitted corners so it is easy to put on top of your existing mattress pad and won't bother the other sleeper. We bought an additional waterproof pad to put on the mattress based on other reviews. So yes...we have the waterproof pad over the mattress, our quilted mattress pad on top of that and the ChiliPad on top of that, followed by the fitted sheet. You will save a lot of money buying the twin ($449) versus the king ($999). I figured if we experience a leak down the line as some other reviewers mentioned, it will be much easier to swallow the expense of the replacement pad (I understand about 25-30% of the unit cost) than it would be had I bought a king sized system. It is easy to set up and not terribly loud. You do hear it at first but you get used to it and then it is just background noise that doesn't bother you. We already sleep with my cPap unit running. Suffice it to say we are not bothered by anything else, save for a thunderbolt, do to the background noise we both produce! This unit helped my wife immediately, similar to other reviewers statements. She has had to dial in on the temp she prefers based upon whether she wants to sleep in shorts/tank versus pajamas but was able to accomplish this in about a week. She used to wake up sweaty with her back "on fire" and even kept a cool tub of water next to the bed to dip her feet in. All of this has gone away. She sleeps more soundly and for longer stretches. When she starts to heat up, she claims the coolness of the pad keeps it in check and she doesn't overheat. The bed doesn't get as hot directly under her due to the pad and there is always coolness around her to shift to. I would suggest the twin, which is 36" wide versus the single, which is only 28" wide. The difference is about $50 bucks, but the extra 8" of width is worth it and still doesn't impede my side of the bed. We haven't felt a need to buy the additional 4 foot extension hoses as some folks mentioned but I can see the need for it based on bedroom configuration. In any event, you can add that if you feel you need it. Also, one reviewer mentioned they were in Arizona and it didn't work as well because the unit is only as good as the ambient temp it pulls air from. This is true and if you live in a hot environment and don't have or don't use A/C during hot nights I can see it would be an issue. I am assuming more people have A/C - central or a unit for the bedroom, and use it, particularly if they are already having issues like the ones we are discussing here. We keep our bedroom around 72-74 degrees at night and the unit works great. I hope this helps with your decision! Can't put a price on a quality nights sleep...or a happy wife :) 1 Year update: Unit continues to work without problems after 1 year. So many reviewers speak about damaged padding/tubing. You have to be cautious with this system! Ours lies above a cheap thin waterproof pad (just in case of a leak)and our regular mattress pad and below the fitted sheet. My wife frequently washes our bedding but does not launder her pad. She carefully rolls it up and sets it aside. There is no need to launder it if you always keep it between freshly laundered bedding. Aside from that - keep the water full, sanitize regularly with a small amount of H2O2 and you should be ok. Good luck! Review: Expensive but works EXACTLY as described - I tried the Feel Cooler Cooling Mattress Pad. This pad has no electric components (fans, water-cooled). It cooled initially but, eventually, heated to my body temperature and I had the same problem I had before-waking up sweating. I had to return it... I have used the ChiliPad for about a month. The foam mattress pad I use works but is too hot. I slept but woke up sweating. The ChiliPad has worked well so far over the foam mattress pad. It is liquid-cooled so you have to fill it with water. Not a big deal but you have to take that into consideration. It isn't just a cooling blanket as if you were plugging in your grandma's old electric blanket. Also, it is recommended to add 30cc (the size of a nyquil cup) of hydrogen peroxide when/if the water gets cloudy or has particles. You can see that by the see-through window which also serves has a water-level device. I think I will either add hydrogen peroxide once a month or occasionally change the water. The blanket itself has multiple "tubes" which fill with water and circulate throughout your sleep cycle. I have seen people mention they could feel the tubes but I could not. The fan is whisper quiet and actually relaxing. I use a sound machine "white noise" anyway so this was not a factor for me. The remote control is simple to use and seems well built. The website says the temperature can be set into the remote (or directly in the console on the unit) to 46°-118°F but, 60°-110°F is apparently the achievable range. The lowest I set was 71 degrees which it did quite quickly. I would recommend this product if you can afford the cost. I am still experimenting with increasing the air-conditioner thermostat as the blanket is cooling so well. Also, I bought the twin size (for a queen size bed, only needed it for my side). They sent a full size which would work well for a queen size also if you don't want separate temperature settings for two people.

Keeps sheets cool
When I first received this, it was missing a mini-connector which was required for use. After several emails back and forth with customer service, I received the connector a week later. I'm deducting one star for the fact that a separate connector is necessary at all. The mattress pad should connect directly to the Chili Cube without it. I am a very light sleeper, compounded by the fact that my body puts out heat like a furnace. My poor hubby freezes during the night, while I can't get the room temperature cold enough. I'm constantly throwing off the covers. Worse, we have a very dense, very firm temper-pedic mattress. So I haven't slept well in years. I had great hopes for the ChiliPad. I turn it on before I go to bed, and have it set for the lowest temperature. The sheets are nice and cool, and I turn the pillow over, and it's quite cold when I get in. The pad stays cool around the edges all night, but my body heat does warm the middle up considerably by the morning. Like I said, I put out heat like a furnace. But the chilipad does allow me to sleep better. I can move around during the night, seeking a cooler spot, allowing the warm spots to cool, which they do quickly. I tested the ChiliPad for a week before I would let my husband through any boxes away. But I'm glad I kept it. It feels wonderful getting into bed, and has helped me to get a better nights sleep. For anyone who doesn't have quite the body heat problem that I do, this would be a tremendous help. For me, it's good enough. I don't think I'll ever use the heat function, but it does heat as well. Oh, I live in South Texas, which doesn't help with the heat and humidity.

Skeptical at first but now a believer! Love it!
I bought this product roughly a month ago and wanted to use it for awhile before I wrote a review. I bought the twin size and put it on my queen size bed which worked just fine. I'm in Houston Texas so it's always hot and humid here. I keep my thermostat at 75 degrees in the summer which is pretty comfortable. I have no health issues other than that I sleep really hot and wake up 3-4 times per night. Sometimes I would have a puddle of sweat from just sleeping hot. Since I keep the air conditioning somewhat low already I know that the upper layer of my bedding is not the issue when it comes to me being hot. I sleep with a thin comforter on top and nice sheets as well. So it had to be the actual mattress that was making me hot. That was my test when it came to buying the Chilipad(on bottom) or the BedJet(on top). After months of deliberation and reading reviews, contemplating buying a new 'cooling' bed, contemplating spending $1500 on a sleep number unit, I decided finally to buy the Chilipad. I'm very happy that I made that choice as it's been the best investment I've made in awhile. The first thing I'll say is that I wish I had bought this 5 years ago when I was first researching these. The unit keeps me cool all night and I have not been waking up 3-4 times because of being too hot. The unit seriously cools my mattress. I keep it on 57-58 degrees and sometimes it's a little too cold. It took a couple days for me to get truly comfortable with the unit since it is a little different feeling than what I've been accustomed to. Another item I've heard a lot about is the unit being too loud. I sleep with a ceiling fan running so it's about the same amount of sound which hasn't bother me at all. If there were two units in the room like they use for the queen and larger mattresses then maybe there would be a little more noise. But so far the pros outweigh the cons in that area. As for construction of the unit, I haven't had any issues. I fill it up with distilled water like the instructions say. One thing I thought was funny about the instructions is that they say to not fully immerse the unit in water to fill! Who would do that? Fill up the bath tub with water then dunk a piece of electrical equipment in there to fill it up... Are consumers really that dense?? Back to the construction, I haven't had any leaks, it hasn't stopped working or anything like that. One thing that I would like to see is a unit that uses one pump for a queen sized bed. The only way you can get a queen sized topper is to buy two units. There are couples out there who both sleep hot or cold. And there are people out there who don't have two people in their beds and like to roll around at night. That would be my only issue so far and would be a suggestion for the company to have that option. I wasn't paid for this review but Chilipad is more than welcome to throw a little change my way if they want to. And how do those people get compensated for those good reviews that I've seen here on Amazon?? Either way it kinda defeats the purpose of reviewing anything if you're biased like that... Hope this helped!

With the new cube- No more hot flash relief!
Below is the review I wrote for the older version of the Chili technology. I LOVED it. It sadly died about 6 months ago and since the older model wasn't any longer available I went with the newer 'cube' ( newer is better, right? ). Having used the cube for 6 months I can give a fair opinion- it aweful! I went from a 5 star rating to a 1 star. This is a crappy product. It barely cools at all. The old unit I actually had to keep the temp a little higher than its lowest because it would get so chili. The cube? You will be lucky to find a spot that is mildly cool. This is nothing like the origional- terrible in every way- even the controls have been down graded to very, very basic. My advice- DONT get the Cube. Chili Technology- if you are listening- bring back the original model that actually worked fabulously!!!!! My old/original review: Ever since hot flash hell started for me 5 years ago I had become more and more desperate to find any product to ease the symptoms. I have taken it upon myself, as a personal challenge, not to use hormones and 'tough it out'. Call me a masochist but with the ever-changing medical advice revolving around hormones I decided to forgo them. I will say that there have been plenty of times in the middle of the night, drenched and miserable, I would have gladly broken into the nearest pharmacy and swallowed handfuls of ANY hormone I could have gotten my sweaty hands on. In my desperation to find relief I have bought : a bed fan ( Brookstone) - aweful, useless, sent it back; chillow - 😒... 5 chillows ... To swap out every 10 minutes so that there was a modicum of coolness; fans of every shape and size. Nothing... Nothing worked. About 1 year ago I came across Chili technology. I read about 1/2 way through the description, proceeded to have a hot flash and clawed through my purse then and there to find my AMEX card. Truly at that moment I did not care a bit about the reviews- I would have gladly traded one of my children and paid double for the cool relief it promised. Once my unit arrived ( my children were under the threat of painful death to call me immediately when it arrived if I was not home ) and immediately set it up- exactly as directed. Within minutes... Cooooooling was felt. Soon my whole bed felt like a cool oasis. Aside from when I have gone out of town there has not been a single night I have not used it with IMMENSE relief. I have read comments saying 'scam' , false posting, doesn't work... I can honestly say, my unit at least, has worked fabulously. You do need to put heavier covers on your bed which, understandably, seems weird but does the trick. If you the love the feeling of cool sheets all night- this is your baby. I can't speak to the heat part- never used it, doubt I ever will. Why not 5 stars?: The 1 year mark just came up on my unit and I noticed it was not getting below 58 degrees... I like it cold! I have maintained my unit meticulously so it should easily have continued at optimal working order without issue. I did call customer service, they were really great. Since it was under 2 year warranty I sent it back for repairs, no problem. It has been 2 weeks since I sent it and have emailed to check on it and was told the repair department was "backed up". In the meantime I count the minutes for it to come back home to me! I love this product! I do see they have come up with the new 'cube'- I don't know why- it does not seem like an improvement as the temp only goes down to 60 degrees. I wouldn't be interested. I sure hope they keep this model around for future reference!

What a NightSaver!
I have been using this product for about a month and am so grateful to have found it and happy with it. I bought the twin size on the recommendation of other reviewers, as it is expensive and only one person needs it. The bed is queen sized, so it is unsecured but I seldom need to adjust the pad, despite the fact that my bed is a tempurpedic with the foundation that allows me to raise and lower the head and foot of the bed. Every few days we pull the pad up straight. I have severe neuropathies that leave me mostly confined to my bed. This includes autonomic nervous system neuropathies, which affects my ability to regulate my body temperature. I am so hot most of the time that even in the middle of winter I would sweat at night and awaken very damp and uncomfortable. The foam bed is really comfortable but unfortunately very hot too. I had tried different cooling pads but they were not enough. We put this Chilipad on the bed, I set the temp for 65 F and the it cooled down in just a few minutes. I went to bed and and did not awaken during the night, and in the morning I was dry and comfortable. Since that night I have not had a hot night. I am hoping it will do as well during the summer. I have no complaints about the product. The set-up and instructions were easy. It doesn't leak, it stays put (even with my silk sheets), the timer works, the water is easily refillable, it cools fast and best of all, I am finally comfortable after several years of waking up all hot and sweaty. The expense has been well worth it

Night Sweats
This is my second ChiliPad. The first one never heated, it was cold all the time. It started leaking after just two years .Also my first one started having black stuff which I presume was mold in the tubing that the water goes through. I contacted the Company about it they told me to run peroxide through it on heat for an hour to clean it out. I could not do this as my first one never had heat. I think they should have some product you could put in the water to prevent mold in the tubing. I have night sweats so it really didn't bother that it wouldn't heat.me too much. This second ChiliPad heats up so I can set it on a temp and it heats or cools. The main thing I don't like about it is you have to point the remote control right at it and get at least a foot close to it, and I can't hear the beeps to know if it's on or off. So I have to lean over the bed just to see if it's on or off. That's a little hard for me as I'm 60 and have back pain. I do have night sweats so I have to have something to keep the mattress cool especially in the summer. I wish they would make it so you could either have the sound louder or lower. Seems like that would be an easy thing for the company that makes this to do. Also make it so I can push the on or off button and not have to get so close to it. I have an adjustable bed and I can raise and lower it with the remote under the covers. I don't know why I have to get so close to this unit to turn it on/off and change the settings. Be aware that in the summer months that this unit puts out heat. So if you are in an enclosed bedroom your bedroom will get very warm during the summer months. We have central air/heat. But we put a small a/c in our bedroom to cool it off as we like it very cold during the summer, so this isn't a problem for us. But if you just have central air/heat or no a/c at all this is going to be a problem.

From Hot Flash Hell to Heavenly Slumber
Can you say hot flash hell is greatly diminished at night?! I was waking up several times during the night, hot as hell, sweating, uncomfortable, and having great difficulty returning to sleep. I have even gone to the fridge in the middle of the night just to have a blast of freezer air for relief, even though the AC turned was down to 68 degrees. You get the picture. I had been contemplating the Sleep Comfort dual temp pad but was concerned about the poor reviews (not to mention cost). I stumbled across ChiliPad by pure coincidence. I was very skeptical but after reading the reviews from other ladies in hot flash hell, I decided to take a leap of faith and purchased the twin pad for my side of our king size bed. I had intended to give the ChiliPad a trial of a month before posting a review; however, I am doing so after only TWO nights of sleeping on the pad. There are plenty of descriptive postings on the ChiliPad technology, so I am reporting on the effects. It was easy to set up (my husband did) using distilled water. As mentioned, I was doubtful, but the cooling effects seemed to greatly diminished my hot flashes and for the first time in AGES I slept really well. So, of course I had to conduct an experiment the second night. I turned the AC OFF, and guess what....slept like a heavenly angel on a cool cloud. The fan sound was a bit annoying so I reversed the pad so that the fan is now at the foot of my bed which helped. I am purchasing an extension cord to move the ChiliPad cube even further away from my bed ($20 at ChiliPadtechnology.com & free shipping). Otherwise, hot ladies (and gents), I highly endorse this product for its cooling effects. Since I have no intention of ever using the pad for its heating effects, I won't be able to speak to that. Thank you ChiliPad!!!
