Sensible Plan with Steady Results!
I started the 4 Day Diet on June 1, 2009 [in conjunction with Slim in 6 - also bought from amazon.com], and in 3 weeks lost 10 pounds. I know this may not sound like much to some, but for me it's a miracle. I have P.C.O.S., a hormonal problem which makes it difficult to lose any weight, let alone this fast and healthy. I had tried other 'diets' and plans to no avail. With this I was able to get the mindset and food together before starting and have not fallen off the wagon (even with people eating around me), or felt hungry! I love this way of eating and plan to keep doing it (Modules 1 - 7),all the way to my goal weight. After which I plan to do the 80/20 plan, which is only indulging 20% of the time. My fat spots are reducing and I am eating healthier than I ever have. This plan works because it details exactly what you should eat for the day and you can distribute it throughout the day as you see fit, so you're not hungry. Works for me and will until I reach goal. I also know that this is a tool I can use if at any time I need to 'spruce up' the old bod' if I should gain 5 lbs. and not let it get to 50 lbs. Love you Dr. Ian Smith! Thank you for such a sensible, straight forward plan.

Great book!!
I am a 27yr old obese female. I was so affraid to start this diet, I didnt think I would make it through the first 4 days....I am proud to say I am now on the 4th day of the 2nd module and I am surviving!! I have dropped 5 lbs so far and I havent been following the exercise plan exact. I probably would have lost more weight if I did, but o well. I walked 1 mile on my 2nd day of the detox module, did some wii fit yoga the 3rd day and didnt do anything the 4th day. With the 2nd module I started doing 'The Firm' cardio work out videos in the a.m. for 30 minutes. I decided on my days of rest i will do yoga. I have so much energy and I feel great because I know I am eatting good. I have even gone out to eat twice and didnt feel like I was suffering. I think the trick is with any diet is not to deprive yourself....if you want a chip really bad, eat one...your not going to die! I went out to eat with my family and my husband was eatting chicken wings, so I had one. I just needed that little taste to satisfy my taste buds. You just have to control yourself.I am excited to drop more weight and continue my new healthy life style. If I can do it I think anyone can. Just make sure you stock your fridge, always have something with you when your out in case you get hungry.....Just give it a try...even if you dont do the modules, the begining of the book is very informative. good luck!!

It works, but it is torture
I am a 41 year old woman, 5'7", and was starting to get too heavy for size 18 when I started the 4 Day Diet. Note that this is actually a 28 day diet, divided into 7 different 4 day modules. I followed it 98% of the way. I lost a total of 19 pounds during the 28 days - 9 pounds the first week, then averaging about 3 pounds each the weeks after. I am now wearing some of my old size 16 clothes in a matter of 4 weeks. Results, yes. But why not 5 stars then? This is not a diet you can follow as a lifestyle, it is truly a diet. I was miserable and felt deprived the whole way through. No grains except brown rice for maybe 10 of the days and whole wheat bread with your sandwich another 6 days. You rarely get any meat or dairy - maybe 4 serving per week. This is the SALAD, veggie, fruit, and beans diet. I logged everything I ate into a calorie counter every single day, and this diet averaged 1100 calories a day, with some days as low as 600 calories - the highest days at 1300 calories. Other reviewers complained about the "fluff" at the beginning of the book, but I actually found that part useful. There is so much more to dieting than just calories in and calories out, despite what they tell you. He makes an attempt to help you get in the right mind set and build up your will power. You're gonna need it.This diet has a very detailed list of what to do every day, without much explanation as to why it is that particular mix. If you want someone telling you what to do, without your understanding why, this is the diet for you. I found myself obsessing about every little thing, worrying whether or not I was doing ok, and beating myself up terribly when I slipped. I hate beans/legumes and just couldn't do it, so I tended to eat natural peanut butter instead. I also agree with other reviewers that the recipes are a waste, because he doesn't tell you which modules the recipes go with, and without understanding why you are supposed to eat whatever it is each day, I never used any of them.I prefer diets that explain their rules. I also think 1100 calories or less on a regular basis will put you into starvation mode and slow down your metabolism. I am giving up on this diet and trying south beach supercharged instead. I have done Atkins before and it has worked for me but I think South Beach might be more livable long term. I am also intrigued by the concept of intermittent fasting and HIIT exercise - going to test those concepts as well.

I am convinced!
Well, I am a skeptic when it comes to dieting etc. I thought all I had to do was workout and not worry about what I put into my body. This was o.k. before I had to take medication for a while. However, after being on meds, it was hard to take the weight back off. I would go from 196 to 200 depending on my workout, but I could never get below that number. Upon returning from a Miami getaway with hubby, I received a copy of the book. In 26 days, I have lost 13 lbs. This is phenomenal. I plan to keep going. I am going to repeat some of the other modules. The recipes are easy to follow. I have never had sea bass in all of my life. I bought some and tried the recipe and it is so delicious. I am a pescetarian so this was right up my alley-steamed fish. The first 4 days are tuff, but once you get past them it's not bad. I have cheated some, but I am still loosing weight. I do not think that this is a gimmick. This could be someone like myself who has had enough of the diet drama and is happy to share her good fortune with whomever will listen.

Paid for new copy got used book
The book is sticky and has puppy dog ears throughout it. I paid for a new book because I read better when the book is new. A new book makes me feel more confident when I read. Their is also dirt on every other page. I am totally dissatisfied by the condition of the book.

Easy to Stick With
I have never gone on a cleanse so to speak I found this one easy to stick with, foods readily available to buy and one didn't starve I lost the 5 lbs in 4 days but you have to be careful about not gaining it back

Half a book
This book - the diet is fine. Sadly, half of the book is missing and has been replaced with a novel of some kind. I only noticed after a month or so as it is the recipe section that is missing and I didn't want that bit anyway.
