Is the trigger hard to pull

No not really. It's actually pretty light, even my 4 year old is able to pull it.

So you must cock it each time right?

Yes, if you want semi auto go for a Stryfe, Demolishor, or Modulus

Is this Nerf gun compatible with the suction cup darts?

Yes, and it works best with those too. There are other great options as well: You will need extra darts. I got these: https://amzn.to/3ywzPYE https://amzn.to/3Kc6Oqy https://amzn.to/40Xtp0w (the suction cup ones) and they work great! BUY ALOT OF THEM! They disappear like crazy! We use these every day! We also use the battery powered one which rocks!: https://amzn.to/3zvOTWT With extra clips: https://amzn.to/3LcnLDn https://amzn.to/3mETdQl NERF did that right at least! ENJOY! For the electric one I mentioned above: Batteries run the mechanism which allows you to empty the clip one shot at a time. I also suggest getting rechargeable batteries and a charger! https://amzn.to/3JwZW7L Rechargeable will save you a lot of money in the long run. Or these non rechargeable Energizers work well too. They do last a long time: https://amzn.to/40JPAaP We all seem to like the Disruptor one better than the Nerf Strongarm (second picture) which has a drop down chamber: https://amzn.to/3nLv4s2 Hope this helps!

my 3 year old has a nerf obsession, I got him the triad EX-3 blaster since its small but he struggles with it. is this one hard to cock?

No, this is actually one of the easiest nerf guns I've ever used. Cocking it takes almost zero strength unlike other nerf guns.
