DO NOT BUY! Damages wood floors
This is an absolutely terrible product! Firstly, all you get is a tiny strip that only covers a small portion of each step. It did absolutely nothing to help any one of our 3 dogs, they still slipped on the stairs over the single day these strips were attached to the step. When we realized they don't help at all, and do nothing but look very unattractive on our steps, we decided to follow the manufacturer's directions to carefully remove these strips. What you see here is a photo of just one of the badly damaged areas. It comes up with the finish on the hardwood! We were quoted $800 to fix the damage these useless strips caused to our wood steps in a matter of several hours. Wish I saw the warnings of others and heeded their advice... STAY AWAY! =(((

Great for our old shepherd... wonderful product
Our old shepherd has been falling down the stairs because of her bad hips and she can't catch herself because her nails just slip on the hardwood. It's heartbreaking. I bought these and since I put them on the stairs over a month ago she hasn't fallen once. She semi slipped just the other night because her paw stepped on the outside edge of the stair where there was no pad, but because of the traction underneath her other paws she caught herself and was able to make it up without incident. We just love her so much, It's such a relief to be able to give her a useful tool.

GREAT FOR DOGS AND HUMANS!
This is an excellent product. My older dog was getting nervous about stairs, we can't put a carpet runner because of stair lights, and I didn't want to ruin the look of our oak wood stairs with an ugly black tread. These treads are perfect. Once in place you can barely see them and my dog is running up and down the stairs again. It's better for us, too, because it's easy to slip on the stairs in stocking feet. Unlike other treads I've read about, socks don't stick or catch on them either. A few probably obvious tips on installation: (1) Mark the left edge where you want them with tape first. It's much easier to line them up and get them straight (2) If possible, start with the stair that is least visible. I didn't get the first one totally straight and stupidly did the bottom stair first. Once they are stuck it's hard to get them off. (3) DO follow the direction of rolling them down from left to right instead of just placing the whole thing down at once. It's much easier to get out air bubbles this way. (4) The wallpaper edging roller worked better than our rolling pin because of its size, but, I pressed so hard I broke it. A pantry can might have worked better for me. You can obviously still see the treads when finished but after a while you don't see them at all. I love them!

Golden Retriever no longer dreads the first step
Giving the Puppy Treads four stars just because they are a bit more visible than I had hoped for - even on our lighter color hardwood. However, that is the only negative point I have for these.Installation was a breeze. If you have ever applied a large vinyl decal, these go down just like those. Simply peel the backing, carefully place in your cleaned location and firmly press/roll to create a good bond and remove any bubbles.I did a test, and found that there was not any residue upon removal of one, which was a bonus for the wife. But, most importantly, our Golden Retriever doesn't slip on the first step of our staircase any more, and has much more confidence when he is running up after us for bedtime. It did take him a couple days to get used to it, and realize it was there, but now that he knows, he uses the pads, and does not slip.Added benefit - those of us in socks don't slip either!

Provides Excellent Safety While Maintaining Aesthetics
I've already recommended these to several other people. I prefer the look of my hardwood steps (where we recently removed carpeting) but I have an older dog with some neurological problems who kept tripping on the stairs. Plus, my husband and I recognize we are also aging and don't want to fall. These non-slip treads let the beauty of the wood show, but provide reliable traction for ALL the creatures that live in my house. And while the treads are not completely invisible, they come pretty close.

Our dog is no longer afraid of the stairs
We have an older dog who was afraid the go up and down our hardwood stairs. This was leading to occasional accidents because he couldn’t get to the door to go outside. We installed these non skid treads and he immediately felt comfortable on the stairs again. Our two-legged family members appreciate the fact that the stairs are less slippery for us, as well. The treads are easy to install and blend into the hardwood pretty well. We’re very happy with the results - enough so that we bought more to do a second flight of stairs.
