Very reliable, convenient for travel and effective hat. Bought the hat for sun protection while fishing in the Amazon jungle, packed it in a suitcase traveled America and then to Brazil without any problems or damage to the hat. Packed it flat in a suitcase, upon arrival wet it and left to dry with rags stuffed in it and it held perfect shape. The hat worked great for sun protection while in the Amazon! Used it at home by the pool this summer too..... but driving to work I had noticed a similar type hat in the middle of the road just down the block from home, thought nothing of it. A week later couldn't find my hat for the pool and then the penny dropped. Walked down the block and the hat I had seen being driven over for a week was still on the side of the road. Yep, it was my hat, blown out of my back yard all the way down the block. Soaked it in soap & bleach for a couple hours to get the tire tracks out, dried it and it is still doing great ready to use again! Great purchase!

This hat is not Khaki, it is YELLOW. My children laughed at me when I put it on because they said it looks very girly (they are not "woke"). Even my more PC wife couldn't help but laugh. The hat would've been great if it were actually khaki, but it is yellow.

Be aware that "Papyrus" in the name does not refer to the color. This hat, according to the tag inside, is made of 100% paper. When it is caked and discolored by sweat, there's no great way to CLEAN it. Some websites suggest 50% water/50 peroxide. I asked product support and they suggested finding something online (!) but I did learn that the correct term is "woven paper straw hat." I don't mind the shapeless mass that it assumes, even when worn, but my mine has developed a rather strong odor from sweat and sun.

I needed a sun hat for my honeymoon to French Polynesia and wanted something with enough style to not embarrass my new bride while keeping my face, ears, and neck safe for the long haul of marriage. While I look dorky in just about all hats, this one made me look slightly less dorky and kept me shaded and cool throughout the trip. The exterior material of the hat was surprisingly smooth and pliable and the color works great with most outfits. The venting works well without letting too much sun in and since I still have most of my hair, I didn't need to worry about getting my scalp burned (though if you're thinner or bald up top you may want to consider this risk). The hat itself is very lightweight and comfortable and I quickly forgot I was wearing it most of the time. My only complaints are minor but significant enough to take one star off. While it is technically packable, it does not pop up quite the same and is starting to warp a bit near the top of the hat, even though I have only packed it a few times when absolutely necessary. The brim is not quite as wide as some of their other hats which meant I had to be a little more careful about exposing the back of my neck, so be aware that you're still going to need sun protection back there. The brim itself is a little floppier than I expected and did not stand up well to the wind. The draw string stayed snug without being bulky, but I don't like that it is tied to the hat rather than held by a fastener which would make it faster and easier to add/remove.Overall, I was very pleased with this hat for the price and have been enjoying it back at home on sunny days. It's more stylish than most sun hats I found and the venting keeps me cool and comfortable. I'd definitely recommend it.

Don’t buy this hat. I bought the khaki color and it’s actually yellow. Very ugly. It arrived in a bag, inside an Amazon box. The hat was crushed inside. The shape was completely ruined. To make it all bad, the hat was way too small. Like I said, don’t buy it.

It's not the prettiest hat. It's not stylish. It's not handmade by the fine people of Panama. It is, however, able to take a beating. I have a nice Panama hat, and I barely take it anywhere because it can't get wet, can't get smooshed. This hat? Go nuts. It is fine in the rain, and I shoved it into my suitcase with shoes on top and it popped back up looking just fine once I got where I was going. Wore it out on a boat the whole day and it kept the sun off perfectly - no neck burn, no face burn.

I ordered 5 hats to find one which I liked and which fit, although I was fairly sure this hat would prove my keeper. And it would have been. I liked its color, its fit, its brim size, its chin cord, its shape--that is, the shape it was supposed to have. Unfortunately, it came twisted, folded in half with its crown completely crushed into a puddle in a small plastic bag. It was totally, irredeemably crushed, both brim and crown. It cannot be reshaped; I tried. The hat itself would have been quite nice; however, it is now literally ruined, basically trash being returned to Amazon. I like the hat well enough to try ordering it again to see if I can get a better version.

I am a professional Gardner who bought this hat to deal with the New Mexican sun during this past summer. This hat is cool, comfortable, lightweight, and provides a good amount of shade protection. I appreciate the natural papyrus material as I find synthetic hats to hold in too much heat. The hat is really flexible which is probably great for packing but it doesn't tend to looks super crisp. If you dress in a white suit all the time and are looking for a pith helmet this is probably not the hat for you. The brim of the hat is lined underneath to provide extra shade and the woven top is not backed and allows heat to escape. The only draw back for me is that the chin strap goes right over my ears, which is occasionally bothersome. Overall I am very pleased with this hat and look forward to abusing it further next summer.

great light hat for hot weather

Product was shipped in a box, but the hat was completely free floating inside the box and therefore was crushed when it arrived. Despite trying all kinds of things to get the hat to stand up properly, it will not and just collapses down onto my head. Very sad about it as I previously owned this hat and loved it until it went missing.

Die Krempe ist recht breit und daher evtl. nicht jedermanns Sache. Durch das verarbeitete "Stroh" ist der Hut sehr luftig, schützt durch das eingearbeitete Funktionsmaterial in Deckel und Krempe aber sehr gut gegen die Sonne.Getestet wurde bereits bei Wanderungen in Kärnten.Schade ist allerdings, dass das Stroh etwas labil ist und der Hut nicht faltenfrei aufbaut. Das schadet der Funktion aber natürlich nicht sondern ist nur ein optischer Makel. Daher 4 von 5 Sternen.

Sehr guter Hut. Schützt optimal vor Sonne ohne dass man drunter schwitzt, lässt sich zudem zusammengefaltet im Rucksack transportieren. Paddeln und Angeln in Schweden bei über 30°C in strahlender Sonne. Kein Problem!
