Works as designed.
It works as designed. It will set off an alarm that is not too loud.I am using it in the bedroom to wake me up during a storm, so I can get my generator going for the sump pumps. It's great, because it's probably as loud as an alarm clock and it won't wake up the whole house, or sounds like a smoke detector alarm and cause a panic. That's why I chose this one. Most of the other alarms have deafening volumes that I did not want. The light is adequate, meaning, I didn't expect a bright flash light. But, when you do have a power outage and everything is pitch black, you can take this little alarm light to lead you to your flashlights that you would normally use.

Seems to work as required
Got this for cottage so if we're sleeping I'll know if power goes out which is important in winter as my water line is heated and will freeze if power is out for any length of time. I've only tested it by turning off breaker but works fine. Reasonable price. Only had it a month.

Life-Saving!!!
I bought this so that I could sleep in a tent outside and get some peace while my grandpa was indoors. He used oxygen and was very sick. He passed away last year very suddenly. Anyhow, I had a baby monitor hooked up so I could hear him, and I needed this is make sure I knew if the power had failed.I think every parent who relies on a baby monitor should have one of these! When the power fails, the light on the unit turns on and a siren wails. It’s easy to hear and easy to see in the dark. The unit also has a rechargeable battery (I guess that would be obvious), so that when the power goes out, you can unplug the wailing light and turn off the alarm and use it as a flashlight. It’s really a genius device. I love it. I still keep mine plugged in, in case of power outage.Example of a great example of reliability:I was lying in my bed, and in the early morning I heard a popping and cracking outside, and a subtle creaking. It was a big tree coming down. As soon as I heard the great thump, all the lights and my grandpa’s oxygen machine went off. He must have oxygen, or he’ll die. The alarm sounded, the light came on. I got up and was able to hook my grandpa up to tank oxygen with the light. I went outside after finding my headlamp and saw what the damage was. The tree that fell took out all the power lines and blocked the road... I called EMS for more oxygen to be delivered and then the oxygen supply company. EMS walked around the tree to deliver the oxygen. Yadda, yadda, yadda. We were all ok.Another example: My dad is very hard of hearing. He can’t hear you calling from the next room over in the house. This unit, placed next to his head as he slept, alarmed so that he knew of a power outage. He was able to get up and hook my grandpa up to portable oxygen. Day saved!

It works great, but should be louder for garage use.
I purchased this product to act as a deterrant and notification to family/friends that accidentally unplug the extension cord powering the deep freezer. I have lost a freezer full of food two separate times because of this problem. After testing it plugged into a surge protector to cut power with the switch, the alarm is very obvious if you are in the same room or if the door is open, but less noticable if you are in another room next to the room where the alarm is wth the doors shut. I don't have a dedicated power outlet that is near the freezer, so I use an extension cord with multiple outlets. The alarm is plugged into one outlet of the extension cord and the deep freezer is plugged into another outlet next to the alarm. I have this setup in my garage about 15 feet away from the interior door to the garage. With the door shut, i can barely hear the alarm sound when I am 10 feet away on the other side of the door. In my opinion if the alarm was louder than 100 dB it would be much better. 78 dB is just a little to low for my purpose. I would like to clearly hear the alarm at least half way across my house with it setup in the garage. If you have this setup inside your house, like in the kitchen or an interior room, then I am sure it would be more than acceptable. The garage door is typically metal insulated or a solid wood door. The garage also has insulated walls and this helps insulate sound more than an interior wall or door.I also suggest this company make a smart version of this unit that includes the alarm and also sends push notifications to email or an app. That way I can be aware if power is cut away from home or in the event that I cannot hear the alarm when I am at home.
