Design Toscano QS222893 Old Studley Castle Gargoyle Sitter Statue,greystone

This beautiful statue is even better than I expected. The detail is gorgeous, it even has purple on the inside of the wings. It's a sitting gargoyle and the base is very firm so whatever shelf you have him seated on, he's not likely to fall off unless knocked. The gargoyle is lighter than I expected, made of real crushed stone bonded with high quality resin. It's sturdy but has lots of detailed pointy bits (the fingers and wing tips) so I will be especially careful not to knock or drop it, just in case. It came packaged really well in polystyrene so it arrived in perfect condition. The size is 9.5 x 7. 5 x 16 inches, and it weighs about 3 lbs. It would make a wonderful gift but I'm going to keep him as I've grown very fond of him already, and it has inspired me to look up the history of Old Studley Castle, which I hope to visit one day.

This is surprisingly light for the size, so if placing it outside you may want to think about gluing it down or even cementing it in place.The figure is gloriously malevolent looking, but with a rakish glint in his eye - or I might just be seeing things.The paint job is fairly functional, but unless you're really examining it up close you won't notice. eg the body has a slightly different tone highlighted over all with purple ribbing on the inside of the wings, but these colours aren't that far from the actual colour of the casting so this doesn't stand out. You could always touch up the paint work yourself if so inclined.The detail on the casting itself is fantastic.It's suitable for setting on the corner of a raised bed, on a step or on the top of a cupboard - bearing in mind you'll want to make sure it doesn't fall on anyone's head.

He's light but looks pretty stone like, a very laid back gargoyle sitting back having a break. I've got him sitting on a bookcase and he is rather striking. Not for everyone maybe, a looming presence but I find him quite companionable. Will suit people who like offbeat objets, maybe gothic decor or a fantasy/comic fan. Not for children or curious pets - he'll chip easily. Not for too close scrutiny either, whilst he's nicely made he is light and fragile, with lots of wee knobbly bits.

Great size and lovely finish. Not quite sure if there's a chink missing our of one the back of the wings as it looks authentically damaged if it were! Weight is acceptable. Not too heavy that it's impossible to move but not too light that it'll easily fall over. Would look great at the end of a bookcase or equally good outdoors.Very impressed with this, more than other Design​ Toscano pieces I already have. Well done!

Toscano are becoming a popular brand, the ethos seems to be re-creating some of the wonders of the world, from ancient Egypt to the Cherub of Caserta as well as Nordic mythical plaques, Budda statues to name but a few.This Gargoyle is an absolutle gem. Extremely well detailed and made from sturdy fibreglass. The only sad part was that the item came with 2 broken toes, which I fixed easily enough and now you can even tell the toes were broken. I suspect it was mishandled in production as the polystyrene packaging should be more than ample to keep the item secure.I have placed the Gargoyle in my garden where he sits looking on. He really has added a lot of character to my garden and I am growing quite fond of him.Altogether a well put together item.
