Step-by-step Drawing People

Excellent Beginner Book
I have 3 sons that love to draw, one of my sons is less creative but loves to copy and adapt things so I used to have to draw step-by-step images say for a person or a dog etc and it would take me ages. I decided to purchase this book because you can't really go wrong with people can you, especially since they can be adapted to suit the pictures that my sons were drawing.I honestly expected this book to be quite thin and flimsy. I was pleasantly surprised to find this wasn't the case, it's a decent size and unlike many other step-by-step books the steps in this book are understandable and easy to follow. You'll find the steps run from left to right over two pages to allow your child to directly copy the steps underneath in the book if need be.✓' Clear pictures that are easy to follow.'✓ Lots of varied step-by-steps to follow and adapt.'✓ Space for your child to copy the image within the book.'✓ The book's quite substantial so there will be plenty of drawing time per book.'✓ Excellent for all ages.My youngest is six and he has been able to follow step-by-steps for the past couple of years. My eldest is nearly ten so this book is absolutely suited to kids and adults of all ages. Fully recommended to inspire your creative little monsters.

Child friendly basics - Excellent
Paul Cezanne urged other artists to "treat nature by means of the cylinder, the sphere, the cone..." So, this lovely little book translates the basic principles of drawing used by great figurative artists from the renaissance masters to the Disney animators - to begin by reducing figures to very basic shapes - into child friendly terms. The book might look simple but it actually lays down basic principles of drawing [principles that are taught in adult life drawing classes] - beginning with basic shapes and then gradually refining, in a way that children will find enormous fun, not to mention the 'buzz' they will get from producing such great drawings, the book makes success so accessible. It provides a great start for 'very young artists' and thoroughly recommend it

Fear the blank page no longer!
Within a few minutes my 7 year old, who has quite horrible handwriting was producing pictures that looked interesting and convincing, way better than his poor pen control would suggest he could manage. Of course he can't create his own characters yet but copying the ones they provide will help him figure out a 'language' for representing people.I had a tiny worry that this sort of direction would stifle his natural creativity. I think if your child is doing great experiments with drawing already then leave them to figure out their own style and find their own solutions. But for us, we were seeing something more like pencil phobia, so this was a big win.You can expand it by inventing stories for the characters and in our case writing them down - which I confess was our real goal - to work on his handwriting. Really though, I think Usborne is the most wonderful publisher. Every book I've ever bought from them I've loved.

Most of it already included in another book.
I bought this for my 6yo for Christmas as she loves drawing and we have another book in this series which covers animals, people and buildings. Unfortunately the bulk of this book is already included in our first book “big step by step drawing book” but I didn’t have time to return it and find another. If you want a really brilliant drawing book then get the general one rather than this which makes a book out of parts of another, which isn’t my opinion is far superior. Very disappointed.

Easy for a child to follow
Really great book that a child can follow and draw independently. There are blank spaces in the book specially for copying and drawing. I have given 4 stars because over time some pages have come off the binding. I would have expected a sturdier binding. Overall it is still a worthwhile buy particularly because a child can use this book effectively independently without adult supervision, and feel proud that they have accomplished drawing various people in different poses.
