James V

No sense of narrative here
This book is clearly very well researched. Having said that, the next thing that comes to mind is that it is almost unreadable. There is no overview of Scotland in the reign of James V, but instead we have a series of accounts of every court case and dispute between the various lords, or between the king and the lords. While it is true that most Scottish magnates were interested in the local rather than the national (a point which Cameron makes) it must be possible to write an account of the reign that goes beyond the local. I found this very disappointing.
