Food For Free

Fab little book, and great fun to work out what plant is what for my kids
This is such a fab little book, which fits nicely in my back pocket of my jeans, and we have great fun taking it out and about with us on our many many walks, trying to identify plants.Luckily almost all of the plants in the book have an illustration AND a photo, which is handy. There's a couple that don't have a photo, so it's a little bit harder to be clear that you're identifying correctly, but it doesn't affect use or fun for me, hubby and our 5 year old twins.A great addition to our outdoor adventures.

Not user friendly, there are some poor quality pictures that are not clear
The only good thing about this book is that you can fit it in your pocket.“Free food” is split into four sections - plants & trees, fungi, seaweeds and shellfish.Unfortunately this book is not newbie/user friendly for two following reasons:1) It is in alphabetical order. It would be much more practical and user friendly if it would be split into the months (which foods can be harvested at particular month/-s). Also some plant names are known by different names, so it would be a good idea to name it both names. For example Ramsons (Wild Garlic).2) Some of the drawings and photos are poor quality. There are drawings, photos or combination of both... but quite few of them are not to much alike, not clear, too far away/not detailed enough or in such a background where it is hard to have a good look. Because of this, there is a big chance that you can mix some of them with something else (have in mind that not all edible foods are in this book), especially with not edible things!

Love it, even if it wasn't pocket sized!
The cover might be different to what you were expecting (not that it matters anyway).I am so impressed by this book, even if it wasn't a pocket book:-It's got illustrations and photos for each for ease of identification (which is vitally important)-It's got the common names and the scientific names for each- It's got advise on how to use what you harvest-It's even got historical significance. It's hard to figure out If i need to do further reading because it is so packed full of information.LOVE IT!

FANTASTIC little book fits in your jacket pocket
with this coronavirus and bering left with no food because of hoarding greedy people. I decided its time to be more self sufficient ongoing. This has been a wake up call that we rely too much on supermarkets. This book covers wild berries, wild herbs, wild mushrooms use with caution, wild weeds that are all edible. Even covering seashore foraging which I live right at the shore. I know all else fails I can live off the land. Fantastic book one of best books ive ever bought I buy a lot of natural books. Highly Recommend wee gem right enough. I cant imagine why any negative reviews of this wee book.
