Fantastic value mid range phone
This is the first Google phone I have ever used, and it's also the first Android phone, and I'm impressed with it on both counts. It's a mid range phone that offers absolutely everything I could ask for, and more. The design is rather indiscreet, but what I love about it is that it is fairly portable compared to a lot of other phones these days, and because of this, it fits in the pocket nicely. Phone operation is generally smooth, the OLED screen is good quality, and the camera deserves the highly positive reputation that it has received from all corners. Whether night or day, photos are very impressive and capture natural lighting superbly. The only real downsides of the phone is the lack of 5G and also a rather unreliable fingerprint reader, located on the back of the phone. Battery life, on the other hand, is only decent, with me having to charge the phone every two or three days, with my usage being based mostly on internet browsing. Overall though this is a brilliant phone, and I'd definitely recommend it.

Great phone-But beware android 12 update!
I purchased this phone, to replace a Samsung A51, which I do found too big to comfortably handle. It's amazing how few good quality smaller phones, are available at the moment.Anyway, after an Amazon price match, I got this for £299.Set up was very easy; all data and apps were copied from the Samsung within a few minutes. The phone was fairly easy to customise to your own preferences, although simple things like changing the text alert could be made easier, as I found that was hidden under a few menu layers. Once you work it out though, it's easy. The fingerprint sensor is spot on, and works 99% of the time, compared with the Samsung hit rate of around 70%.Bluetooth works seamlessly, and pairing is so simple. It's also a no frills phone, so doesn't have facial recognition, which isn't necessary for me, and there is no way to expand the memory. The camera is amazing, and photos can be tweaked endlessly.Very clear display, and the battery is very powerful; I would say it lasts a day and a half under normal usage.I've probably not even scratched the surface of what can be done, but it is super fast, and I'm more than happy with it.##BIG DRAWBACK##Please beware of an Android 12 update/beta, as it totally bricked the phone. Decline the installation, unless your phone meets certain criteria, that are available to see on the web.The phone was totally paralyzed after the update, so I got onto Amazon and Google to resolve the issue, neither if whom were if any use.I unbricked the phone by allowing the battery to drain, then placing it on charge, and initiating a factory reset, which worked. This was a minor pain as I had to reinstall a few apps, but I also used a backup from the Samsung, which saved me some time also.So if in doubt, leave Android 11 installed, although Android 12 now works, and us very good.I hope this review helps you.

Bang for your buck? Not really, but it gets good.
Pixel 4a earlier than the rest of Singapore? With Android 11 to boot? Pun intended. The OS is very clean and simple with little room for complaints. Of course being what's possibly the cleanest OS upon starting out, you'll be spending a lot of time configuring your settings upon unpacking. First thing you'll notice is how comparatively tiny it is compared to your previous Samsung or Huawei. Not being able to appreciate art, the phone's OLED screen is great to my eyes. The hole-punch front camera looks adorable, and the main camera works magic with its pictures. Plastic build or whatnot has never been a bother to me since I wrap my phones in Spigen Rugged Armour at worst and Tough Armour at best. The meat of the review:Day-to-day applications run smoothly and without issues like stutter/lag for the most part, with one or two questionable sudden noticable stutter like during enemy disintegration animation in FGO. In this price range that was a tad bit disappointing as my $360 A50 before it had no such problem outside of Yang Guifei's NP. I find the phone doesn't overheat easily (or as of today, 23hrs upon receiving it, at all) even in its protective yet suffocating Spigen Rugged Armour case during the 8hrs of usage I got out of it upon receiving it even in Singapore's ridiculously hot climate. It ran on 60% battery just fine for 8hrs despite constantly using Youtube and FGO throughout. Battery consumption doesn't seem to be a problem and is likely to last a day at work with energy to spare for your after-hours leisure. Considering the price range and the fact it's $150 more expensive than its #1 budget competitor in Singapore the Galaxy A51, it's up to the buyer's preference between having a better display and bigger battery or a smoother UI and better camera. The promise of 3 years of being the first to receive OS updates is also very welcome. Android 11 has been available since Sept 8 2020 but take note that YOUR GAME APPS MAY NOT SUPPORT ANDROID 11. Therefore please wait for updates from developers saying "It's okay to update to Android 11 now." (Thanks for the heads-up DelightWorks)Summary:If you're a pure Android fanatic, like it small or want a non-cluttered phone this is for you. (in this case the latter 2 for me)Unrelated:After 3 weeks delay from its official launch date of 20th August I was surprised the phone arrived a day earlier than expected. Pleasant surprise, thanks Amazon.SG

Superb Phone.... Awesome camera
I have had my pixel 4a for 3months now and I can report that it is a fantastic phone. It's compact and fits in my pocket, it's like a smartphone holiday; compared to some of the huge phones of today. The screen is superb 1080p OLED ...it's only 5.8 inches but that's enough in my opinion.Videos are sharp & clear with good colours & contrast. The Camera takes A M A Z I N G photos...you can become David Bailey with no effort at all.Videos likewise are very good.I do have 1 critism though ...and that is you can't alter the aspect ratio in the settings...a strange omission in my opinion. Also there is only 1 camera lens, but it does everything well... including macro...and better than most budget phones with 4 lenses. The duel speakers on this phone do a fine job with phone calls...and to a lesser extent with music...but hey, most inbuilt phone speakers sound tinny.. don't they?Plug a good pair of earphones in and the sound quality is excellent... very open sound with lots of detail. It's strange though that you can't adjust the sound...there is no graphic equaliser or tone controls. You can see that Google decided to keep things simple with this phone... but everything you do get works very well indeed. It's like a purist hi fi...just a straight line with gain. I think it works...they hit the nail on the head. The battery life is very good indeed... easily lasting all day. And the 18w charger charges it up very quickly.Even though the specs are average... Snapdragon 730G and 6 GB of Ram...it's a very fast phone & I think this is due to the stripped down Google Android 11 software. It's up and running in 10 seconds from pressing the on button. The fingerprint sensor is excellent...and works first time...every time.If you want a phone that is lightweight, compact, simple, fuss free and easy to use, with the best camera in the business...this pixel 4a is for you.But if you like lots of features & fiddling with lots of settings...then look elsewhere.Personally...I love this phone...it's like getting back to basics...but in a good way...it has everything you need...and nothing you don't.Well done Google.
