Not for children 😡 as most of his books
It is our 3rd and last of the Williams books 😡They are NOT for children (my son is 9) all he writes about is miserable children, bad parenting and that mum will divorce dad if he won’t be wealthy enough.Language and metaphors are not dutiable for children.

Not impressed
The language in this book was quite rude (not setting a good example to a six year old listener!) and it isn't a patch on Roald Dahl or other classic children's authors. Bit disappointed after reading such great reviews before purchasing. It's worth reading Cooking on a Bootstrap Jack's Twitter feed about Walliam's children's books - they are absolutely spot on in their review.

Daughter gives it top marks.
My daughter is 9. I bought her this book for Xmas and it's the first book she's read within a week of her own accord. Even though she does enjoy reading, there's other things she enjoys more and I usually have to prompt her to read every evening (as her school demands). I didn't have to do this with this title. After each session she was eager to keep me up to date with what was happening, although im ashamed to admit i was never properly listening- too busy with mum stuff. However, she was reading the last part this evening and actually started to cry! I was surprised by that! Obviously she had really connected with the characters and been engrossed in the story. When finished, she enthusiastically assured me that I simply must read the book because it is the best story she had ever read. She's now itching to get onto the next title!

Unbelievably bad grammar.
I couldn't believe how bad the grammar was in this book. The story was kind of similar to a weak Roald Dahl story but lacks the real depth of The Twits or Danny the Champion of the World. I couldn't continue reading it with my boys after the first 3 or 4 pages. Wouldn't recommend it unfortunately.

For my grandson aged 10 years.
This book is loved as much as all David Walliams books are enjoyed by my grandson. We have not been able to discuss it yet but he liked the storyline and the illustrations. He said it was a lovely edition and arrived quickly. Thank you for keeping him happy during ' lockdown'!
